LANCASTER – A man was shot to death in Lancaster early Friday morning, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 3:25 a.m. Friday, July 2, on the 2700 block of West Newgrove Street, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Lancaster deputies received a ‘person with a knife, possible stabbing assault’ call… Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male black, approximately 20-22 years old, suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso,” the news release states.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.

“There were no witnesses to the actually shooting, however, there were people that were enjoying an afterparty at a residence… [they] may have heard the gunshots and heard a vehicle leaving. However, there is no description of the vehicle at this point,” Lt. Hugo Reynaga told reporters at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is immediately available at this time, Reynaga said.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact sheriff’s homicide detectives at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Bobby Mitchell of Lancaster, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

I actually met this young man he was actually very bright im pretty sure his mom stayed in that neighborhood. I was riding my bike in the middle of the night he was walking through the parking lot freezing he was looking for a place to sleep. I asked him what the heck he was doing running around out here at this time of night. I bought him a soda from the store and asked what got him where he was.? Told me his friends had partied with him one night and guess it didn’t have the effect on them that it had on him. Good-looking young man. You kids know who you are we all effect each other. My deepest sympathy I have a young niece out there in the same way. Cause her ex boyfriend gave it to her. All I can do is pray??

You have no soul if you think this shouldn’t be reported. Someone died, you think some people would have empathy for the ones involved and family..

What do you think of a person who finances political hit mailers that call an African American veteran a ‘war candidate’? Sounds racists doesn’t it? It’s the same person who ‘declared war’ on Section 8. You can encounter this person at a Lancaster city council meeting. He’s the one who makes crazy statements and will have you thrown out if you dare challenge his moronic comments and policies.

Listen up Chico…the truth of the matter is…every time you read about someone getting run over..a store gets robbed…someone burns down a house….yes those things happen but how does it apply to me or anyone else? Therefore it’s a big so what. If you want to feel bad go ahead..it makes no difference. I know you can’t help yourself snowflake
