PALMDALE – Two people were killed early Wednesday morning when a Dodge Challenger hit their car from behind, causing it to spin out of control, slam into a light pole, and burst into flames, authorities said.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at 11th Street West and Rancho Vista Boulevard, near the Antelope Valley Mall, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A sheriff’s official told KTLA5 that the Challenger was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed in the number two lane on Rancho Vista when it hit the Corolla from behind, causing the driver to lose control of the car, which hit a light pole and rolled over, becoming fully engulfed in flames. The male driver was ejected, and the female passenger was trapped inside.

The driver of the Challenger abandoned the car and left the scene,KTLA5 reported.

The names of the fatally injured victims were not immediately released.

Mustang, Camaro and Challenger drivers share 5 commonalities:

1). poor decision making skills; prone to snap decisions –
2). impulse control issues; fragile egos; quick to temper –
3). enjoy artificially low insurance premiums cross-subsidized by safe motorists –
4). they don’t know beans about automotive engineering –
5). social responsibility isn’t high on their list –

Ave P / Rancho from Division past the mall is a major area for street racers most nights just after 10p. Assuming some get off work at 10p. Division to O is a major drag strip on a regular basis as well. Nightly there is loud revving with Turbo valves popping like gunfire. They hangout in the parking lots south of P near Country Club as well as the dead-end near the freeway behind the arcade. The night this occurred it was pretty loud and busy after 10p and the day after it was super quiet. If the police were interested they could keep them on the outskirts rather than busy streets by just showing up.

Just like the illegal fireworks, our elected officials are reluctant to do ANYTHING that would require them to get off their lazy asses!

This is what happens when budgets get cut less enforcement because certain groups want less policing in our case less sheriff enforcement for our vast valley along with speed limits that need to be decreased so that when a speeder does get caught it raises the fine and or punishment.

Again speed limits are just the beginning. Something needs to be done in memory of innocent victims and surviin family members.

I don’t think lowering the speed limit would have stopped those idiots from drag racing on a major street in the middle of town. But they do need to be found and put in jail for a very long time

If you weren’t so ignorant you’d know that there’s been an increase to policing on the streets because of all the accidents. Palmdale hasn’t been affected and you act like stuff like this wasn’t happening way before all those groups

Palmdale Man likely abandoned the country as well.

Perhaps being burned at the stake would be a fair punishment for the hit-and-run driver of the Dodge.

What a terrible thing to have to read about. I hope the law is successful in catching the driver of the Dodge Challenger. It would be nice if they would make an effort at reducing all the speeders here in Palmdale too. I live in Palmdale and I hear speeding and racing cars often in my area –on side streets and major streets. It’s no wonder someone died. This needs to stop.
