Lancaster to improve six local bus stops

by The AV Times Staff • May 7, 2021

LANCASTER – The city of Lancaster will be working on six local Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) bus stops to advance and improve the overall accessibility and safety for public transportation riders.

The six bus stops slated to receive improvements include:

  • Avenue I/17th Street West
  • Lancaster Boulevard/3rd Street East
  • Lancaster Boulevard/5th Street East
  • Avenue J/30th Street East
  • Avenue L-6/8th Street West

The project will ensure each stop is ADA accessible, including an ADA accessible route to the stop, and meets accessibility compliance standards. Each location also will receive traffic signal modifications to accommodate vehicle congestion and median modifications to improve overall roadway safety and efficiency.

These enhancements were identified through a survey conducted in partnership with AVTA. The survey evaluated rider feedback, ADA accessibility and compliance, and the safety of each bus location.

“Lancaster is dedicated to improving our local transportation systems and we are eager to address the American Disability Act enhancements at these stops that riders helped us identify,” said Lancaster Vice Mayor and AVTA Chairman Marvin Crist. “AVTA’s annual survey helps Lancaster pinpoint specific transportation concerns and actionable ways to improve them so all riders are safely able to take advantage of our public transportation.”

The project is expected to begin construction in the middle of May and is scheduled for completion by summer. These improvements are the latest installment in Lancaster’s overarching commitment to proactively address traffic safety concerns in the city. For more information on the Lancaster’s Safer Streets Action Plan, visit https://www.cityoflancasterca.org/saferstreets.

When I rode the bus before I bought a car, I never had a problem with them being on time. It didn’t occur to me to count who was riding on the bus, and the bus drivers were always kind and professional. They have to put up with a lot of ugly attitudes while they’re working.

Drivers already make $24 an hour , maybe if they were on time/ on schedule or even show up. You know it’s not the riders fault avta doesn’t have enough drivers! People worry about paying for a bus ride, you don’t have to pay , just have to have some lame excuse like my platapusse ate my tap card! Bus rides are free with an excuse just ride the bus for a day(free of course) and watch how many people ride for free, the little sign’s that say no fare no ride don’t mean a thing .

You seem really bitter at…well everybody.

Bus drivers get paid. You may think you deserve to be carried in a palanquin by slaves, but in our system we have buses, buses have drivers, and drivers get paid. This is just how it works, not some evil plot to get one over on you.

If there are people riding the bus for free, and just for the record other than me I very seldom see anyone do so, they also are not part of some plot to get one over on you. I really don’t see how me riding the bus for free would do you any personal harm. If I am missing something and you want to seek redress for this mortal insult you think I have committer against your honor feel free to contact me and we’ll get together and work that out.

But seriously, you need to lighten up.

AVTA has you waiting a long time and it is not fair for the riders. As for the drivers stop being so greedy pay your drivers what is fair for them

Twenty bucks says that all six of these bus stops are the service point for a business belonging to one of Wrecks’ cronies.

This is joke I’m sick and tired of waiting a bus in summer heat. Your running route on Saturday scheduled. Marvin will never get my vote. Claiming that low ridership which is a complete lie the truth is your drivers have quit because you only want to pay the barely minimum wage they’re also asking for medical coverage to 100% just like Santa Clarita drivers get the teamsters should strike.

Are the buses ever full. I see those tandem buses loading on 10th Street West near the Mall and they might have 5 or 6 passengers visible through the windows. Where are the rest?

Careful you about to pull back the Curtain and find a embarrassed Marvin who is running AVTA with a bunch of yes people. Kinda like the city councils of both cities. Bullies in charge of local government.
