Traffic enforcement operation on Avenue S nets 47 citations

by The AV Times Staff • February 3, 2021 4 Comments

The city of Palmdale  invested money into widening and improving Avenue S in 2016, but the roadway was not constructed to bear the weight of commercial trucks.

PALMDALE – Nearly four dozen citations were issued Tuesday during a traffic enforcement operation targeting commercial trucks on Avenue S in Palmdale, authorities announced.

“Avenue S is not a commercial truck route, and in recent years, the city of Palmdale has invested money into widening and improving the roadway. The roadway was not constructed to bear the weight of these types of vehicles and will quickly deteriorate if these vehicles continuously use it,” according to a news release by the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

“Due to the construction on Pearblossom Highway, significantly more commercial trucks have been using Avenue S instead of following the detour signs and using the designated truck routes on Sierra Highway, Palmdale Boulevard, Avenue P and Avenue M,” the news release continues.

Palmdale Sheriff’s Station Motor deputies conducted Tuesday’s traffic enforcement operation, which netted 47 citations. Deputies will continue to monitor Avenue S and enforce the traffic laws, especially while the construction on Pearblossom Highway continues, sheriff’s officials said.

“Palmdale Sheriff’s Station Traffic Department is aware of the complaints from our citizens and we are working diligently to alleviate as many of these traffic issues as possible,” the news release states.

For more information, contact the station’s Traffic Department at 661-272-2400.

I don’t know which company is in charge of the work on 138 hwy, but for sure I can tell that is taking too longggggggggggggg…what the city is doing? Why is taking so long to repair or build a new road? The work on such road it should NOT take no more than 6 months, one lane of asphalt 1/2 long can be done in one day. Cement roads can be built even faster I seen it done on n Freeways. The city is NOT doing enough to expedite the construction and now the city is issuing traffic tickets…wow

… ongoing problem we’re having is, truckers detouring off the 138, tearing up E. Ave J, and 170th St. East. In another 6 months, Avenue J east of 90th Street West will be completely destroyed –

Complain to Rex. You will likely get a letter saying the road deterioration is an act of God. No kidding.
