PALMDALE – A man who barricaded himself in a residence in the Palmdale Friday morning was found dead in the garage, authorities said.

The incident happened on the 37700 block of Highland Street, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Deputies and a Special Weapons Team responded to the location around 6:30 a.m. following a report of a domestic dispute.

“LASD Palmdale station personnel along with SEB [Special Enforcement Bureau] gave verbal commands in an attempt to get the suspect to surrender. The suspect did not respond nor surrender to multiple verbal commands,” the news release states.

“After several hours, SEB deployed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) throughout the house in an attempt to locate the suspect. After a search, the suspect was found deceased in the garage of the residence,” the news release states.

His identity is not being released at this time, sheriff’s officials said. The cause of his death will be determined by the coroner’s office, the sheriff’s department reported.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station at 661-272-2400.

UPDATED [1/11/21: The deceased has been identified as 54-years-old John Egan, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of his death.

This was not a COVID issue. It was a mental health issue. I am his widow. He is at peace now. I am recovering from my injuries. Please don’t ignore the signs of mental health decline

No. A victim of poor mental health care. I know personally. He was my husband. He is at peace now. This story is beyond a man that was barracaded. Unfortunate events that morning. Mental health issues are no joke.

Please dont mind Beecee, he/she like to make the same joke on everyone’s death because he/she claims all deaths are now being claimed as covid deaths. I’ve tried to point out that this isnt the place and these people have loved ones who are mourning and it’s not cool, but he/she still they are clever and put it up everywhere anyway.

It was a very terrible day for my family. It was being see. On Facebook as a live feed. People heard the shot that took his life. I hurt for my children and I almost lost my own life in this tragedy. I mostly hurt because I didn’t see the signs to help him get the help he needed.
