Op-ed: Former Rep. Katie Hill: “Trump told his people to storm the Capitol”

by Opinion • January 7, 2021 13 Comments

Katie Hill

By former Congresswoman Katie Hill

Two years ago, it was an honor to be sworn in as a freshman member of the 116th Congress. I decided to run for office in the first place because of what so many of us knew: Donald Trump was one of the biggest threats we have seen to our democracy. What happened yesterday was the inevitable outcome of a presidency that was entirely focused on accumulating and holding onto authoritarian-like power while stoking the flames of division, hatred, and fear.

It was no surprise that violent extremists were going to attack the Capitol—the President himself repeatedly and explicitly invited and encouraged them to do so. But the predictability of their horrific actions made it no less terrifying to witness in real time.

Throughout yesterday, I couldn’t help but think about all of the important votes I took in that chamber, about all of the history in the building that was being desecrated, and most importantly, about the safety of my friends who continue to serve. I am so grateful that, even though law enforcement utterly failed to adequately prepare for a well-known, planned, coordinated assault, all of my former colleagues and their staff made it out safely. Their bravery in those moments, and their courage to go back and finish the business of the people by certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s election, was remarkable.

We all must be very clear that the events of yesterday occurred because Trump told his people to storm the Capitol. He was the arsonist who set the fire in plain sight, and the Capitol will forever be stained with blood because of him and his enablers. And again, let’s be clear: Trump’s enablers are the Republicans in Congress who stood by and either vocally supported his dangerous rhetoric or stayed silent in the face of his hate.

Sadly, one of those enablers is the Republican who now represents my hometown, Mike Garcia. Though he only won his election by a few hundred votes, and Biden won our district by 10-points, Garcia still stood up in support of undermining the election results and supporting the lies perpetuated by Trump which led to yesterday’s insurrection.

It’s time for expulsions in the House and the Senate and full prosecutions of everyone who incited this – including Rep. Mike Garcia. Congress should reconvene and move on this immediately, as well as initiate the process of Impeachment. And, those in Trump’s cabinet have an obligation to invoke the 25th amendment rather than resign in cowardice. Now is the time to act.

The incoming Biden administration must extinguish this virus of domestic terrorism and white supremacy that has been allowed to spread unchecked for far too long, with the same urgency that it works to extinguish COVID-19.

Anything less will not suffice.

About the author: Katie Hill was elected in November 2018 to represent California’s 25th Congressional District, which includes the Antelope Valley. She resigned a year later.

She is the very definition of coward. She was a joke and always will be. Shes a pathetic hypocrite loser that ventured into politics for god knows what moronic reason. Probably glorification amidst her piers. Democracy has been the biggest threat to independent Americans and republicans. From the BLMGBTQ to rioting and looting and burning up businesses and demorats did nothing to stop it when they should of, making them just as much of “domestic terrorists”. If people of color are so threatened by “white supremacy” then maybe they should shut up about BLM which has been the biggest threat to America so far. There’s is nothing American about this idea of democracy.

Unlike Garcia, Katie didn’t vote to overturn an election based on Trump’s BIG LIE.

Garcia and the House Republicans had the same intention as the mob.

Both the mob and the House republicans including Garcia and McCarthy are dispicable seditionists and tools of the far right madness.

They are destroying the GOP and that’s a good thing before it destroys the country.

I may as well include Alby. I guess s/he doesn’t know any better and it shows.

Dave(or davina or davida or davinia) you are probablly a literal he/she with a vulva thats bound to prolapse into a scrotum. Stay in your cesspool of heshees and quit trying to drag others in with you. You voted for Koward Katie who resigned like a coward rather than facing the music. Get over it… just like dirty illegals do with the border. Illegal votes and foreign interests helped your asian black president along with creepy joe (the slippery one) make it into office. We are living the “BIG LIE.”

Katie was a huge disappointment and squandered the trust that voters of our district placed in her. However, I do agree with her sentiments expressed in this opinion piece. The voters of our district deserve no less. No on to finding a candidate that inhabits the Goldilocks zone.

So sad that she blames Mike Garcia for her failures, he didn’t make her take those pictures or live the lifestyle she was living.

If we could get someone who did what you did in 2016 in the AV we could win all those seats- the Assembly, State Senate, etc. The AV needs a change from the good
ole boy system. We need representatives that represent everyone and not just the few or special interest.

I don’t know. I can think of many more threats to our society than a few hours of chaos in Washington DC. Like undermining our social values with drug and sex parties at taxpayer expense. Or people who bilk taxpayer money from homeless-assistance programs such as PATH.

Go away Katie you failed and you are irrelevant. Go back to your sex parties and drugs. You and your types are the problem with society. You have no moral compass.

First off, its actress. And such allegations came from a crooked lawyer that is bound to pay his does. Secondly, God help us all if we had to listen to you and your boyfriend talk sweet obscenities in eachothers ears via televised news outlets and/or internet without your consent or knowledge. Would that be acceptible to you? If you were dave then probably ya. Those that respect human privacy and voted for President Trump sees these allegations as irrelevant compared to more important issues like border security and keeping American jobs in America for Americans to work in. If Hillary or Biden adressed these couple issues, you all would have agreed like blind sheep waiting for handouts. Instead you all got the BLMGBTQ to deal with along with katies feckless dumbasserys. I wonder how many morons she got high and maybe sexxed up to make see her political point of views?

Katie, lets get together and party. You might be a joke posing as a serious politician, but you sure make one heck of a party girl.
