Bicyclist hit, killed by car in Lancaster [updated]

by The AV Times Staff • September 25, 2020

LANCASTER – A man riding a bicycle was hit and killed by a vehicle in Lancaster early Friday morning, authorities said.

The fatal collision happened around 4:44 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, on Avenue I, East of 55th, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

“Preliminary investigation indicates a male adult driving a Honda CRV was eastbound on Avenue I when he apparently collided into a male adult riding a bicycle who was also on eastbound Avenue I. The male adult was ejected from the bicycle and was fatally injured,” the news release states.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending next of notification.

“The cause of the collision is still being investigated. Alcohol, speed or drugs do not appear to be a factor,” the sheriff’s news release states.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the traffic investigators at Lancaster Sheriff’s Station by calling 661-948-8466.

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Forrest Rogers, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

RIP Forrest. He was a gentle soul. He loved working and Walmart. Please understand he was not made to do anything he wanted to do more. Maybe in denial of his own physical capabilities.

I worked with him, frail elderly man with health issues.. I can’t believe he lived that far and was able to make it to work everyday and night… Walmart would have this man doing jobs that clearly he wasn’t physically able to do.. RiP Forrest

If anyone’s ever been to Walmart on 10th he was an employee there, super fragile man looked well over 58 seemed to have medical issues. I blame the employer and this mans family if he had any. I’ve seen him almost fall several times. I’ve made several
Complaints about this mans safety and safety of the shoppers they had him outside pulling heavy carts while they had young able bodied employees “ checking receipts” . I am hearing he was on his way to work the morning he was killed this is so sad

Yes I worked with him. Anytime they needed a carryout they called him. Wth for huge tvs freezers I would do the carryout myself, sometimes the customers would say never mind we will manage.. Walmart is evil.. RiP Forrest

I believe I’ve encountered that particular guy. The guy I chanced upon, joyriding his bicycle during the wee hour, out in the middle of nowhere, way out there on east Avenue I, that guy was out there playing chicken, challenging motorists into evasive action, suddenly veering toward the roadway center-line the instant before overtaking him. That guy made me thread the needle. That guy deliberately tried putting me me into oncoming traffic –

He was on his way to work. Like every morning. He was a quite old man. Its a shame walmart hasn’t put up an announcement like they would in years past for those that have died.

Most bicycle and motorcycle riders are morons and don’t know how to ride. Not to mention thinking they have the right away over a 2000 pound vehicle. I see it every day. Bikes and motorcycles aren’t special

      Yes, it is a thing.
Some people only have a bike to get to and from work.
Others choose not to drive without a license.
Then there are those that can’t sleep, and want to get tired by biking.
Not everything is criminal at that time of night… but could be in some cases.

I was gonna say that too, but it appears the driver wasn’t drunk and didn’t drive away. I know its hard to believe…. I’m still kinda stunned.

Most car accidents involve sober drivers, not intoxicated drivers.
