Female driver killed in single-vehicle collision in Lancaster

by The AV Times Staff • September 17, 2020

LANCASTER – A woman died at the hospital Wednesday after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree in Lancaster, authorities said.

The single-vehicle collision happened around 1:12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, on Sierra Highway south of Avenue J-8, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

The woman was driving a Kia Sportage northbound on Sierra Highway when the vehicle “left the roadway and collided into a curb and ultimately a tree on the east side of Sierra Highway,” the news release states.

“The female adult sustained serious injuries which were not immediately considered life-threatening. The female adult was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital and later died,” sheriff’s officials said in the news release.

Her identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.

The cause of the collision is still being investigated. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision, according to the news release.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the traffic investigators at Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.

Possible medical issue. Her injuries were deemed not life threatening at the scene, so maybe a health issue happened which caused the crash and later her passing.
