A college education is still one of the best things to do if you want to improve your future career prospects, but sadly, going to college isn’t always safe, especially when you are young and have very limited life experience. Hopefully, by the end of your college years, you will have learned a lot – not just academically – but there are still plenty of safety considerations to keep in mind when choosing a college, such as an area that it is situated in, the type of people that you will be spending time around, and everything else in between. We’ve listed some of the top safest colleges in America.

Arizona: Arizona State University-West

Arizona State University-West tops the ranks for being the safest option in this state. If you want to go to college in Arizona, this is an ideal choice as there have been little to no hate crimes or sexual offenses reported here, and only a very small handful of violence cases which were quickly dealt with. Students here also have access to a wide range of resources that students can use in order to improve their safety and there are clear guidelines to follow for students who do run into problems. Another safe option in this state is the Arizona State University-Downtown.

California: National University

National University is an excellent choice if you want to attend college in California. This college is a relatively small, private institution with a student population of around 17,000. While it might not be one of the largest colleges in the U.S., there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that smaller colleges tend to have better safety records. Students here also have plenty of resources to turn to when it comes to safety and there’s lots of information provided to help students protect themselves in the local area. You can check out data from Nuwber which reports that there have been no instances of serious crime at National University.

Texas: South Texas College

South Texas College is an ideal choice for any student who is looking for a safe university to attend in this state. Located in the Rio Grande Valley, this public college has a very low rate of crime, with only 0.03 cases per one thousand students reported. In addition, the student population is very well-protected with access to several resources including safety briefings, emergency alerts, and on-site security personnel who can help quickly in the unlikely event that you run into a problem.

Tennessee: Lincoln Memorial University

If you want to attend university in Tennessee, Lincoln Memorial University is an excellent choice with a relatively low rate of crime and plenty of measures in place to protect students and ensure campus safety. Rated the safest campus in the country, they have a security team and campus police department that offer a wide range of safety services including regular patrols, after-hours escort service, camera monitoring, and responding to both emergency and non-emergency situations. There’s also an anonymous tip line that students can make use of in order to report any crime to the campus police.

North Carolina: Elon University

Elon University is one of the safety university options in North Carolina, with a set of principles that all security staff lives by in order to ensure that the campus is safe and enjoyable for everybody there. And, it shows with a very low crime rate.
