The Ultimate Guide to Creating a Good Store Window Display

by Content Partner • March 22, 2020

By Harry Smith

If you’re the owner of a local store, one of your best marketing opportunities is the window display. Your window will be your first point of contact with potential customers, so it’s critical that you make a great first impression. Not only do you want to make people stop and look at your window, but you also want to tell them something about what they can expect to find when they come inside. If you create a good window display, you’ll also make the job a lot easier for the floor staff, as people who enter the store will already be highly interested in your products. Here are a few steps you should take to ensure your window display is as good as it can be.

Step One: Decide what type of display will work best.

You may not realize this, but there are actually several different types of window displays you can choose from. Chances are you’ll be dealing with one of the following:

– Open window display – allows viewers to see beyond the display into the store
– Closed window display – a large backdrop conceals the store behind the display
– Corner window display – a display on the corner of the building with two connected windows
– Elevated window display – commonly used for smaller products, these displays place items on a table or elevated surface

Step Two: Create a simple, clear design plan.

The next step is to create a design plan that complements your type of window display. The most important thing is to keep the design simple and clear. Include crisp printed banners or window clings to advertise your products and to make your window look even more professional. Printmoz has a wide variety of printing services you can use to print professional promotional material for your window display at an affordable price.

Step Three: Choose the products you’ll use.

Once you’ve planned the design, select which of your products you wish to feature in the display. Naturally, you’ll want to display the most attractive and trendy products you have. Do some research on other products that are similar to yours to find out what’s trendy at the moment.

Step Four: Get to work.

Once you’ve selected your products, it’s time to start putting your display together. If you consider yourself to be a crafty person, have a go at doing the work yourself. Be creative about which materials will help to draw the eye toward the products on display.

Step Five: Keep updating your display frequently.

Once your display is complete, the work goes on. It’s important that you continue to update the display regularly. Chances are, the same people will walk by your store over and over again. By updating the display with new products and new designs, you’ll keep them interested and intrigued. Old, boring window displays won’t do you any favors. Try to add new products to the display as they come into the store. When you have a brand-new collection of products, or you have a sale, it can be smart to redo the display entirely.
