LANCASTER – Antelope Valley voters can learn at a Jan. 15 meeting about changes in the way elections will be conducted in Los Angeles County starting with the March 3 presidential primary election.
A community meeting, put on by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office, will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Lancaster Library, located at 601 West Lancaster Boulevard.
Rather than citizens voting on Election Day at the polling place to which their neighborhood is assigned, citizens will be able to vote at any one of 1,000 Los Angeles County “vote centers,” which will be open up to 10 days before Election Day.
Citizens will still be able to vote by mail as well.
At the vote centers, there will be new electronic ballot marking devices to replace the “ink-a-vote” marking pens. An electronic ballot marking device will be available at the Jan. 15 meeting for attendees to try.

William says
Let me see if I have this right- LA County has invested a lot of time and money in a new state of the art voting system but Lancaster is going to hold an election in April with paper mail in ballots?
What could possibly go wrong?
Alexis says
O.K. Anon, We the People, and voter….Your choice to stay hopeless guys or gals. Rex isn’t playing fair and you can’t beat him at his game. He’s been the mayor for one reason and one reason only; very low voter turnout all four terms, and once again I say, he counts on all you lazy, can’t connect the dots voters, to turn your own city around. Rex didn’t bring in April elections; it’s been going on for decades. I moved in 2015 from a city I deeply care about because I just got tired of the excuses people came up with as to why they didn’t show up to vote. CAP’N LANCASTER wrote a telling comment last election; why didn’t the people show up!
Anon says
It is not likely that Rex is counting the votes at Lancaster City Hall. Let’s be real here. But those rumors will persist under the current election system unless it is changed.
What would go a long way in being transparent would be to contract with the County to run the election like most cities do, and holding elections in November like most cities do.
If Rex really wanted to be fair, he would push for voting districts in Lancaster, as he has sued for in several other cities and districts. A blind dog could see that our council is not truly representative of Lancaster. They are all west side Republicans.
It is doubtful these changes will ever happen though. Rex loves power as much as he loves money.
Alexis says
Now, the Lancaster voters only need to get off their seats, and vote, which is a problem for them. 11.2% voter turnout is appalling, and pathetic. They like complaining about their situation instead of solving the problem. It’s been this way for four terms.
We the People says
You are so right Alexis.
Maybe having the votes counted by someone other than Rex and the boys will help, too.
Alexis says
If the voters believed your opinion that Rex and the boys counted the votes, then no one would vote, so why not just give up and die miserable. come on, We the People. I hope no one believes you, but I’m sure some do.
We the People says
Do you dispute the fact that votes are counted at Lancaster City Hall behind closed doors? If so, you are in denial of the truth. Our AV TV station should to cover the ‘ceremony.’
If nothing more than to ‘Abstain from all appearance of evil,’ as has been preached from politically connected Lancaster pulpits, it makes perfect sense to have an outside entity handle ballot counting.
Maybe that’s why the turnout is so low. After years and years of the same old, same old, people give up and realize there is no hope for this corrupt, dark city.
I, the person says
We the People: You do not speak for me! No, I will not be the 89% that didn’t vote. It’s your choice to be in a hopeless state of mind, but the fact is that apathy keeps the majority of voters not showing up. An outside entity does handle ballot counting. The voters, whether Atheist, (yes, Atheists have churches), or other places of worship, is irrelevant when only 11.2% show up. It’s your choice to give up and not vote. Have you ever heard of “Tellers?”
Alexis says
I absolutely will not share in your hopeless state of mind, We the People. You do not represent me. I, also, refuse to comment any further with you, because I believe the voters can make a difference in Lancaster if they choose to.
We the People says
Voters do make a difference in Lancaster. All 11.8% of them. They vote at Rex’s church in droves. They have given us the mess we now have. High crime, cronyism, back room deals, enriching the few, crazy ideas, lies, etc.
The 89.2% who don’t vote could change this corrupt city into a great one. But Rex and the boys will crush any resistance as they have so many times with success.
LCR says
We the People… The churches haven’t given you this mess. first you say Rex and the boys do the counting, now you’re saying it’s the churches fault. You obviously have no idea how the election process works in Lancaster or anywhere else. LOL, you just throw stuff out there and hope it sticks.
We the People says
LCR, who said it was the churches fault? The fact is there are voting precincts in Rex’s church. There is a college campus on site at Rex’s church. Rex’s church has thousands of members. They vote. Good for them.
Votes are counted at Lancaster City Hall. That is a documented fact. Doesn’t that seem odd? I don’t know of any other place where elections are held in April and the votes are counted by city workers. Why don’t we have a normal election like everyone else in November and have an outside entity such as L.A. County handle the ballot counting? There is too much opportunity for funny business when the roosters are in the hen house. Of course, Rex and the boys would never do anything deceptive.
Except try to sneak Chinese birth tourism by us. Or give non bid contracts to political supporters. Or make up stories about sheriff’s being shot by mentally ill people. Or take a million dollars from the County for a homeless shelter and then shut it down. Or tell us that bird sounds will lower crime in our city. Or tell us that an airplane with a camera will make us safer. Or sell property for $1 to political contributors who then build facilities for mentally ill people and then claim it is insanity to do so.
Bless the churches for voting. I agree with Alexis that it is time for the other 89.2% of Lancaster citizens to step up and vote.
Voter says
No one is voting, Alexis. You have made that point several times and you are absolutely correct. Maybe there is truth to the posit that it is pointless to vote in an election where the ballots are counted behind closed doors at city hall. Using an independent party to handle ballot counting would go a long way to build confidence in Lancaster’s system. So would moving the election to the traditional November date.
Alexis says
Voter: Well, I keep making this point because you and the other commenters keep making the same points. Same old excuses: April elections held for decades…It’s the churches in Lancaster that are at fault….Rex and the boys are doing the counting (no proof, just your opinion)….and on, and on. I would think the voters in Lancaster would be motivated enough to go to the polls to vote Parris and his boys out, whether in April or any other time of the year. Four terms he has been in office and he counts on very low voter turnout; you give him what he wants so you get what you deserve.
Alexis says
Voter, your comment makes no sense. Tellers count the votes, not Rex and the boys. Anyway since you agree with me that no one is voting then there are no votes to count. Elections in Lancaster will be held in APRIL 2020 people, so exercise your right to vote; if you don’t then you get the politicians you deserve. If you don’t vote then don’t complain!
Voter says
What “tellers” are counting the votes? These votes are counted at Lancaster City Hall behind closed doors. This is not a normal election where an outside entity such as Los Angeles County is handling operations. This is the classic Lancaster good old boy way of doing things. As someone suggested, with ‘Honest’ Rex in control what could possibly go wrong?
David Paul says
After years of working for change, in the 2016 mayoral election, I received near 27% of that 11.2% of the vote. That represents a lot of work and a lot of contacts made. This election could change everything. If 40-50% of the people return their mail-in ballots we will have a new mayor. I need no on the job training and am as familiar as anyone can be about whats works, and what doesn’t in our city. I have put my heart and soul into making our city a better place. I just need people to vote. https://davidpaulformayor.com/
We the People says
Does this mean that Lancaster will finally have to hold legitimate elections instead of having them in April where the ballots are counted behind closed doors on Fern Street? Not that anything funny could ever happen when Rex and the boys are counting ballots behind closed doors. What could possibly go wrong?
One of 63 million says
Anchor babies have distorted natural demographics of CA and LA, corrupted the vote and stolen the nicest state in the union to make it a socialist dictatorship and third world sh!thouse.
Example: Xavier Becerra’s parents snuck into the USA illegally like thieves and now he wants to tell you how to live and pay more taxes to facilitate more anchor babies.
Yeah, yeah, I know, racist, racist, racist, yadadadada…….. But it’s true, nonetheless.
