Family Movie Nights return to Palmdale Amphitheater this Friday with “Up”

by The AV Times Staff • July 11, 2019

PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale’s popular Family Movie Nights will return to the Palmdale Amphitheater, 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd., this Friday, July 12, with a showing of the animated classic Up.

In Up, Carl Fredricksen, a 78-year-old balloon salesman, is about to fulfill a lifelong dream. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, he flies away to the South American wilderness. But curmudgeonly Carl’s worst nightmare comes true when he discovers a little boy named Russell is a stowaway aboard the balloon-powered house. This animated classic features the voices of Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer, Delroy Lindo, John Ratzenberger, and Jordan Nagai. Rated PG.

“Family Movie Nights are all about community fun and camaraderie,” said Palmdale’s Director of Recreation and Culture Keri Smith. “It’s an affordable evening out where people can enjoy some of the best loved films of all time as well as our beautiful summer evenings. Seeing so many children dressed up as their favorite movie characters makes the experience all the more memorable.”

Tickets for Family Movie Nights are $4, with kids 12 and under admitted free. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Parking is free. Tickets are sold on-site only beginning at 5 p.m. on the day of each movie. The gates open at 6 p.m. and movies will start at dusk (when it’s dark enough to show the movie). Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome at Family Movie Nights. Snack vendors will be on-site, as well. All bags and coolers will be inspected at the gate. Alcohol and pets are not allowed.

Other movies to be shown include Zootopia on July 26; 101 Dalmatians on Aug. 9; and How to Train Your Dragon on Aug. 16.

I grew up with “Mother Goose.” Also loved “Little Red Riding Hood.”

You might want to seek approval from the Washington Post for your cartoon film to make sure they don’t view it as “The Lion King”which is according to the Washington Post a Racist, Fascist and Anti Semitic

Racist, fascist, and anti semetic? Sound like a Lancaster Council meeting or Commissioner. In Rex We Trust.

One has to be aware of cultural appropriation in these family films.

“Up” appropriates the culture of curmudgeonly old men.

Every cultural exchange blends the cultures. This has happened since the beginning of time. Every current culture has borrowed from ancestors worldwide.

Watch a Lancaster City Council or Commission meeting. You will likely see incestuous appointments (Wrecks and Marv’s kids appointed to planning commission seats), misuse of funds (Kensington, LEAPS), racism (Islamophobia, anti semitism, homophobia), Read Wrecks’ political literature and you will see anti African American garbage.

I’d rather sit through Up than to throw up listening to Wrecks.

            Incestuous appointments? Whatever that is.

Incestuous appointments are the long list of Lancaster insiders who get appointments, jobs, and sweet deals. People like Wrecks’ son who is on the planning commission, or Marv’s son who worked for Wrecks and who was also on the planning commission. People like DUI Drew Mercy who runs their political campaigns and sits on Wrecks’ commissions and the fair board. Business people like Scott Ehrlich and Jimmy Vose who get the inside track on no bid business deals and may sit on a commission. Or the son of a former sheriff’s captain who was paid to fly the Eye in the Sky around at a cost of $1 million taxpayer dollars a year. Let’s not forget deputy mayor Kitty Szeto who coincidentally works for Wrecks, or former Wrecks employee who was given a job as innovation coordinator at AVTA even though the job was never advertised. Sandy Smith, Wrecks’ campaign manager sits on the planning commission. Deputy mayor Dave Gomez is an IBEW man and they are major contributors to Wrecks’ campaigns in addition to getting solar work from Wrecks.

Lancaster works for you if you are in the ‘family’. If not, you are SOL
