LANCASTER – A man in his 20s died Saturday night after his motorcycle crashed into the back of a van in Lancaster, authorities said.

The fatal collision happened around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, March 30, on 10th Street West near Avenue H-12, according to news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

The motorcyclist was riding north on 10th Street West when a crashed into the back of a van that was also traveling north on 10th Street West, according to the news release. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, authorities said.

His identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification, but he was a white male in his 20s, coroner’s officials said Monday morning.

Speed appears to be a factor in this fatal collision, sheriff’s officials said in the news release.

“According to witnesses, there were several motorcycles speeding in the area,” the news release states.

“Driving under the influence is not a factor for the male driver of the van; it is unknown if the male driving the motorcycle was under the influence at the time of the collision. Speed of the motorcycle appears to be a factor of this collision,” the news release states.

Anyone with information regarding this fatal collision is encouraged to contact traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.

UPDATE: The deceased was identified by loved ones as Tommy Jones. An online fundraiser has been established. To donate, click here.

Ok so basically Tommy is my uncle and that picture is NOT him. That is his brother. Tommy is a red head with a sweet smile and that picture does not represent who he was. Really? Come on please.

There was a motorcycle accident this morning on the 14 northbound around 7:30 am. Looks like the biker will make it but everyone I know that drove a motorcycle has been in an accident from someone else’s recklessness.

Seriously, why do people think that by stating “common sense” statements help. Everyone makes mistakes and sometimes in the end the choice a person makes ends up coating them or others. Either way a family lost a loved one. Would you be saying the dumb [removed] you are if it was reversed? If it was your family member who died and someone else was commenting the unnecessary inconsiderate things? How dare any of you be so cruel. This is whats wrong with our society now. Point the finger and bash and kick our fellow Americans; our neighbors, friends, family, etc. Be respectful for gods sake and if you can’t be considerate and offer condolences or anything that can be helpful in a tragic time of need, then move along and keep it to yourselves.

I didn’t know Tommy, but i have friends who did and who are affected by this tragedy. I offer my sincerest heartfelt condolences to anyone in his family and also to any friends of his. Regardless of how it happened it is a horrible thing to go through, i would not wish it upon anyone. Please ignore the inconsiderate internet trolls who always have nothing better to do than prey on the tragedies of others.

Because the van went from parked on the side to the fastlane without pause… cut right in front of the bikes. Completely illegal move and stupid. Do some research please….

There is no ‘fast lane’ on surface streets.
The stupid maneuver is happening all too often though. Also people flipping a u-turn from the shoulder on a road with two lanes in each direction. Wish more people would get proper drivers training. California needs to bring drivers ed back to high schools.
      Have safe rides

Why are bikers running into the back of cars? This is the second time this year so far. Everyone wants people to watch for bikers, but are bikers watching for other cars and people? Hopefully his young son will remember him.
