The beautiful super bloom has begun, and it is absolutely breathtaking! The hills are covered in orange, and yellow. I love the desert, and I love California.

Me too and I’m only bummed out about the solar panels through out the Poppy Preserve. We thought that was protected and now we find out the solar is promoted by the same people that should have preserved the natural beauty of our Preserve. Greed is everywhere.

We will have one of the best blooms in years and people will come from everywhere only to be disappointed by miles of solar panels. They will probably never come back. It is very sad.

    RE: Solar farms.

I wonder how doable it would be to install solar panels over the SR-14 from Avenue S north to Mojave and even SR-138 (Avenue D).

The land wouldn’t have to be purchased or disturbed as it is now.

    No Valley Fever

The shade would be welcome in August.

All the land devoted to transportation would serve a dual purpose.

They could make it even more attractive by putting Christmas lights on them year round, y’know, like that one house in your neighborhood.

In other news, the shameless republicans who trashed Michael Cohen during his hearing didn’t defend trump at all. John Dean pointed that out as he was in the same spot that Cohen is in now.

I thought that the best line of the day was “They aren’t mad at you for lying, they’re mad because you stopped.”

As an aside, for the first time ever I can say that I was impressed by my congresscritter. Katie Hill is a HUGE step up from the previous line toeing GOP shills.

Looks like the great negotiator failed to land another negotiation during a second try to his first negotiation and the hype that this time it would be a great negotiation and that last time it was great negotiation too, but not as good as time was going to be, and that the Nobel Peace price was his for sure (eat it, Obama.)

In fairness, it was a sticking point about sanctions. He probably turned to Kim and said “we gonna take away all the sanctions, your lordship”, and Kim said “no kimchi for you”, and Trump got mad and left the table. But this is just a picture in my head, I have no proof.

This excerpt from Cohen’s testimony today: “Trump directed me to call business owners, many of whom are small businesses, that were owed money for their services and told them that no payment or a reduced payment would be coming. When I asked Mr. Trump or when I told Mr. Trump of my success — he actually revelled in it.”

Trump sounds a lot like our own local meglomaniac who threatens not to pay or sue you for work done.

Trump and Rex are two of a kind.

  8. Chairman Mao says

    February 25, 2019 at 1:13 pm

FLASH BACK – Remember when Rex was trying to sneak birth tourism by us?

Most mayors courting China focus solely on investment, but Parris was playing all the angles. He wanted to bring in full-tuition Chinese students to fund a local college. He tried to arrange for Chinese millionaires to fund construction projects through “immigrant investor” green cards. He hoped building a Buddhist temple would attract immigration.

And in the fall of 2013, he went too far. That year, he hatched a new plan to bolster the beleaguered community hospital: Chinese birth tourism. The Antelope Valley Hospital was in dire financial straits, with 40 percent of patients uninsured and unable to pay their bills. Moody’s had recently downgraded the hospital’s debt rating to Baa3, one notch above “junk bonds.”

Parris and Abdallah Farrukh, a Lebanese-born neurosurgeon who chaired the hospital’s board of directors, proposed building a new hospital wing dedicated to rich Chinese women, and they arranged for a Chinese delegation to tour the hospital.

“It’s a welcome business,” Farrukh told a reporter. “It’s phenomenal. They pay up front, and they pay double what Medicare pays.”

But locals were outraged. Welcoming foreign businesses was one thing, but bringing Chinese mothers to the Mojave desert to pop out American citizens for a fee just touched too many nerves: immigration, an evaporating white majority, the decline of middle America, and the rise of “Communist China.”
A poll showed 95 percent opposition in town. Nurses from the hospital laid into Farrukh at a board meeting. A cartoon in the Antelope Valley Times depicted a stream of Chinese military women marching out of the hospital, a baby cradled in one arm and Mao’s Little Red Book in the other.

Parris was blindsided. “To me it made perfect sense,” he told me. “You have affluent Chinese coming over here, and their children become U.S. citizens. We don’t want that?!? … What we should be doing is saying, ‘If you have a Ph.D. in money, we’ll pay you to come.’ Seriously!”

He quietly shelved the plan, but the anti-China backlash was gathering steam. Just as the birth-tourism outrage was dying down, the California Labor Commissioner conducted a surprise raid of BYD’s Lancaster factory. The inspectors found Chinese employees at work and slapped BYD with $100,000 worth of fines, claiming they paid the laborers as little as $1.50 per hour. Union protesters protested outside BYD’s LA headquarters. A group called Asian Americans Advancing Justice attempted to hand out Chinese-language fliers to BYD workers informing them of their rights.

Bangladesh…I have lived on all sides of the Mojave desert and I loved it from the beginning. The fact is with billions of dollars in federal stimulus money in hand, the Obama administration set on a grand experiment in the California desert. The goal: Open public lands to renewable energy development to wean the nation from fossil fuels. Quoting Joni Mitchell, “You don’t know what you got till it’s gone.” Miles of unspoiled desert scraped and bulldozed to make way for sprawling arrays of solar panels. Jerry Brown, along with Rex Parris, and many others chose to destroy this beautiful Mojave desert, and it is heartbreaking for those of us that love the Mojave desert. I choose to see the bigger picture, not just what Rex does. Thank you for your thoughts on this matter.

You know there is a 20-megawatt solar array on Air Force owned property in Palmdale. 98,000 solar panels on 180 acres with Ledford at the ribbon cutting. I would say that kicks up some dust too. Maybe that’s o.k. as long as it’s not in your back yard. This is definitely not a political party issue, because both parties endorse solar panels in the A.V. Anyway, I will be looking forward to a super bloom this spring, hopefully. There still are some areas that one can enjoy.

            February 17, 2019 at 10:46 am

The only solar I have seen in Palmdale in large scale is off of Avenue M across from Northrup. No poppy fields there, just industry. Rex Parris is leading the charge to annex our rural Antelope Acres and destroy our community with those ugly and potentially deadly solar field. When the tourists come up this year to see the poppies they will see what this monster has done to our beautiful desert.

          • Alexis says

            February 17, 2019 at 3:28 pm

Valley fever doesn’t just stay in one place, so it doesn’t matter where in the Mojave desert solar arrays are placed. Whether in Palmdale, Lancaster, or anywhere else. Rex Parris isn’t the only one that wants solar fields. Jerry Brown wanted 50% solar by 2030. James Ledford was for solar. Don’t know about Newsom. There are still plenty of places to visit to enjoy the poppies.

          • Solar Power says

            February 18, 2019 at 9:06 am

We know for certain that rooftop solar does not cause Valley Fever. We also know that the majority of people who live in Antelope Acres do not want solar farms next to their homes and schools. We know that the closer you are to all that newly disturbed soil, the greater the risk of exposure to the Valley Fever spores.

They should build those solar farms were build along the 14 freeway north of Mojave and away from homes and schools.

          • Alexis says

            February 18, 2019 at 3:06 pm

Well, there is zero chance that all the people in California are going to decide to live off the grid. My parents brought me to this beautiful desert when Lancaster Blvd. was the main street, and there was no freeway. When people move here, change happens, and there is nothing we can do about the situation, so I hope you can find some peace, and focus on being grateful for what you have. People like electricity, and that’s why there are solar farms, wind farms, and power plants, etc. It all messes with the environment. If Valley fever doesn’t get you, something else will, and there’s too many ways to make a person sick to mention, even going to the grocery store buying tainted food.

You can have plenty of electricity without destroying Antelope Acres. I’m sure when Rex flies in his private gasoline fueled plane he see the vast expanses of open land along the 14 freeway where there are few if any homes and no poppy fields. Rex and the boys are just making money hand over fist by annexing Antelope Acres into Lancaster with no regard for our health or well being. If I ever strike it rich, I will buy the house next to his in Laguna and invite people like Raymond Lee Jennings, Randy Floyd, Esmeralda Jorge, Johnathan Ervin, David Abber, David Grejeda, James Ledford, anyone of Middle Eastern descent, Michael Rives, and anyone who he has ruined or dislikes for lots of good times.

            February 20, 2019 at 2:05 pm

Why do you blame Rex? Rex is the same before he was elected mayor as he is now. He is on his fourth, yes, fourth term as mayor. Why? because of voter apathy. Only 11.2% of the voters took the time to vote, that is pitiful. You keep blaming Rex for all the ills of Lancaster, yet hardly anyone cares enough to make a change. The people get the politicians they deserve when they don’t care. Oh, all the excuses like the elections are held in April; well that’s been happening for decades, and anyway everyone got that ugly hit-mailer right before the election, and everyone remembers that. Some people would rather complain everyday about their lot in life, and what a devil Rex is, rather than make a change, and vote him out. Stay miserable and complain, and see where that gets you. Stress kills!

          • Ray Ray says

            February 20, 2019 at 6:01 pm

Why blame Rex? He is the mayor of Lancaster. He has a council of hand picked stooges that do whatever he tells them to do. Rex is trying to cover over decades of inside deals, nepotism, illegal purchases, character destruction, and idiotic ideas by portraying himself as an environmentalist. Never mind the fact that he lives in two huge energy consuming houses and has a private plane fueled by fossil fuels.

Rex is leading the movement to annex Antelope Acres into the city of Lancaster to build solar farms. Heaven knows how much he and the boys are making on them. We know that Antelope Acres was once a beautiful rural community that is being systematically destroyed by actions led by one man.

That man is Rex. That is why we blame him.

All I know is that I was shocked when I heard Rex Parris became mayor of Lancaster in 2008. I am still amazed that he has lasted four terms, especially with all the craziness that accompanies him and those that are in alignment with him. I shook my head at what he was willing to do, putting out a hit mailer about a person running against him. All he has done and still does has nothing to do with Christ’s teachings, and it is hard to reconcile with that. I’ve probably said too much but, there, I’ve said it. Keep them on their toes, William.

Alexis, rex is just a local version of trump. They both go in with big egos and plans but even when their plans don’t produce the desired results, their voting base just keeps kissing their behinds.

Now, Palmdale has a mayor that will do the same with rex. I don’t know what Palmdale voters were thinking when they voted for him.

Palmdale, under Mayor Ledford, has done very well over the years through several severe recessions, loss of redevelopment money, having to cut staff and go to a 4-day workweek. Its finances are in good order, crime rate has dropped, etc. Most measures exceed Lancaster’s despite its big fish in a small pond lawyer as mayor.

Hofbauer campaigned on tearing down the Cactus Curtain but I don’t trust any dealings with rex or Lancaster. No way. And, I don’t trust Hofbauer to put Palmdale’s interests first ahead of rex’s and Lancaster itself. The AV Hospital fought Palmdale Medical Center and the college used bond money voted on to build a Palmdale satellite campus for its own auditorium. So, there’s that too.

Better to keep the Cactus Curtain and an eye on Hofbauer, Loa, Bishop and Carrillo. That’s all we can do for now lest they slip something past the voters.

If you are unaware of the positive things going on in Palmdale by our Mayor, then find out for yourself instead of asking an anonymous person. By the way, he does not do what Rex tells him to do. He does what is best for Palmdale, and the people that voted for him know this. The little group that comments on here that does nothing but bash the Palmdale politicians, and continually bash the Lancaster politicians, are too miserable to see any good, ever.

Yeah, no worries. Not long ago I was considering that I might have retired too early and thinking of starting a business…in Palmdale. But between Donald Trump and Steve Hofbauer I’ve been convinced to move all my investments overseas. Eventually I’ll be following the money.

As to what I’m doing for the community…I’ve done a good bit of volunteer stuff, but I think the best thing I’ve ever done for Palmdale was to actively campaign against Steve Hofbauer. It didn’t work, because Wrecks and his gang just have too much power, but they say futility adds to nobility.

You sure have a lot of great things to say about yourself. Actively campaigning against someone with opinions in the comments section with zero facts, isn’t actively campaigning. Rex Parris only has as much power as the people give him, Tim. Just because you elevate yourself with self serving words doesn’t make up who you really are. It’s easy to tell people you are a good man with righteous intentions. Screen names that let people make up whoever they want to be, while destroying someone else. “Convinced to move all my investments overseas?” Some naïve people will actually believe every word you say. Image is pretense, Tim.

            January 31, 2019 at 7:25 am

You see, 1945, the smart voters saw through the people campaigning against Mayor Hofbauer, as not coming from a place of truth and transparency. Opinions are not facts, but sometimes it’s hard to separate the two if a person isn’t diligent. Some truth mixed in with outright lies can be deceiving. I hope the voters that elected Mayor Hofbauer will be pleased with what he does for Palmdale. As for me, I will respect our process of election in the A.V. I have many old friends that go to the meetings and are deeply involved in Palmdale and I know most people that comment here are wrong, but don’t think they are wrong.

Because you’re anonymous. Campaigning against someone in the comments section with zero facts is much different than campaigning against someone that isn’t anonymous, and is vulnerable to people that use zero facts to destroy them as a human being. If a person is going to campaign against a public figure then it is vital that facts, and only facts are there for all to see. Using the comments section is nothing but seed planting. There will always be those people that believe the person that plants the seed. Too much seed planting going on in America, and it is going to destroy us from the top on down, as we see the fruit of discourse.

Getting Trump out and also Steve Knight (already out). Are you a part of the “AVDCHD?” A very productive meeting. Everyone had a comprehensive take on everything. As for fact gathering for any politician, it is up to each voter that cares about the truth to do their own fact gathering, and never rely on comments in an opinions section. His political hack DUI Drew handled the Hofbauer campaign which was a smear of Ledford who under accusation. He has not been convicted yet, only accused. Then to split the vote, Rex backed V. • Tim Scott says

            February 4, 2019 at 9:46 am

Wrecks has never had the votes in his pocket to get his way on revenue sharing since it takes four out of five council members. Now they have the votes and are pushing through all of Wrecks other pet projects. Sometime in the next two years revenue sharing will come up and the members who are in Wrecks’ pocket will face a tough choice.

Voting for revenue sharing will likely cost them their seat, but Wrecks will be saying “I put you in office and if you don’t play ball I’ll put someone else in your place.” That’s how he runs the Lancaster Council.

Problem is that once four out of five Wrecks puppets get us into revenue sharing it takes four out of five to get us out. That’s why I pushed for a measure to prevent the council from ever getting into such an agreement, because Wrecks only has to win once. Of course Hofbauer led the opposition to that measure. Wonder why.

No, Hofbauer has never agreed to revenue sharing, not ever. This is why I don’t believe comments that aren’t based on facts. Smart voters understand this very simple but important understanding. If he never agreed to revenue sharing in the first place, there is no need to oppose a measure that he already knows won’t work for Palmdale’s good citizens.

@Senior Citizen, District 2 et al. Would the tax sharing agreement be okay with you folks?

I wrote about what Hofbauer said at the meeting to put it on the record, so to speak.

Now, we’ll have to see if he keeps his word, won’t we?

If he and the rest of rex’s minions on the council suddenly change their minds, then what?

I suspect that all the replies to my comment about Hofbauer are written on the same device by the same hand if not Hofbauer himself.

Hofbauer et all voted for the power agreement with Lancaster at his first council meeting. The staff report said that the agreement with the county would have been better for Palmdale. Hofbauer ignored it. Reminds you of trump ignoring all the expert advice at his disposal, doesn’t it?

We have to keep a close yye on Hofbauer, Bishop, Carrillo and Loa before they do something like that.

So far, the replies defending Hofbauer are a pre-emptive effort to keep the tax sharing issue out of sight till it’s already voted on. I’ll be those aren’t Palmdale citizens posting those comments.

            Like I’ve said “We’ll see.”

            February 4, 2019 at 3:25 pm

Senior Citizen, you are mixing two different things.

Yes, Wrecks proposed a revenue sharing agreement, and Hofbauer voted to reject it. He makes a lot of noise about having voted against it. All good. I wondered at the time whether the only reason it was proposed at all was so Hofbauer would be able to talk about how he opposed it. It was totally absurd and Wrecks certainly knew there was no way it could pass.

There was also a proposal to make it impossible for the council to enter into revenue sharing agreements without public approval. Hofbauer opposed that. Apparently he saw some point in the future where there would be a deal to be made with Lancaster…a point where either Lancaster would offer a deal that is favorable to Palmdale (fat chance) or the Lancaster power brokers would control four votes and can get the deal they want. I saw that second point coming too…and frankly I think it has probably arrived.

Hofbauer, Bishop, and Loa, when they are approaching their 2020 campaigns, are going to be told “either play ball and we fund you, or don’t and we fund a challenger.” They know that only Lancaster’s funding can get them re-elected, so they will play ball. Carrillo won’t be facing an election, but he owes them for the last one, and that’s four votes.

So, bottom line, don’t you wonder why Mister “I opposed the revenue sharing” has refused to get it taken off the table? The likely answer is that if the possibility of the council entering a revenue sharing deal were removed Wrecks and company might lose interest in meddling in Palmdale elections…and Hofbauer can’t have that since their meddling is what got him elected and is likely the only thing that can get him re-elected. When Wrecks puts the hammer down there will be a revenue sharing agreement, and it will gut Palmdale.

A lot of dumb ideas have come from Lancaster, but this isn’t as dumb as it is painfully obvious that they are hurting for money. It shouldn’t be up to Palmdale to pay for their bloated and failed programs like LEAPS, Traction Seal, Ecolution and heaven knows what other idiotic things are going on. Jim, there’s a big difference between READING your comment and finding it CREDIBLE.

Meanwhile, revenue sharing definitely has a place, but that place is NOTHING like the idiocy that Lancaster is peddling. It is intended (and used in many other places) to be applied on a case basis. For example…

Back in the day when Costco wanted to open a store (one store) in the Antelope Valley they wanted it between the two cities and didn’t care which side of the line it was on. Palmdale was getting recognizably better retail traffic and had a better reputation, so Lancaster opted for ‘drop our pants’ negotiation and pretty much all the benefits the city could have gotten from ‘winning’ the Costco ended up going to Costco instead.

That was a situation that was tailor made for a revenue sharing deal, ie ‘whichever city it ends up in revenues from the Costco will be split between the two cities like this.’ Neither city drops their pants, Costco pays for their own store, both cities benefit.

By the way, as proof that a bad deal for anyone is eventually a bad deal for everyone, Lancaster reneged on the infrastructure improvements they promised to Costco as part of the deal, and despite the short term advantages I’d bet that looking at the long term Costco is sorry they got involved with the Lancaster scam squad.

            February 5, 2019 at 2:12 pm

Jim, revenue tax sharing came from Lancaster. The idea was shared at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Booster fundraiser last year by Marvin Crist. Aside from it being a blatant violation of the Brown Act to discuss city business without having a public notice with his own council, he was rallying support of council from Palmdale.

There is a big difference between READING your comment and finding it CREDIBLE.

Suspicious, that someone named “Booster” can’t produce any evidence that this occurred. On the other hand, revenue sharing brought by Ledford over twenty years ago is there for all to see in print. It hasn’t been revisited since, and should be. It was brought to the table twice, and couldn’t be worked out due to Lancaster not agreeing. Jim is presenting facts while you are presenting nothing.

            @JIm

So what? Going forward, sales tax revenue sharing isn’t good for Palmdale as the City will be the major sales tax revenue generator into the future: better location, a transportation hub and no rex & co……….well, until Hofbauer et al were installed.

Palmdale, during Mayor Ledford’s 26 years, developed into the major city in the Antelope Valley with abundant retail on both the west and east side, a new hospital and……………me. I live here.

Except for sales tax for car dealerships, Palmdale leads Lancaster in most measurements from lower crime to higher property values/median incomes, etc.

Lancaster is essentially a bedroom community in the Antelope Valley. While its car dealerships provide more sales tax revenue, there is really no there there in Lancaster.

Thrift shops, half empty old shopping centers, a failed blvd experiment, auto body shops/wreckers and that’s about it. The retail in mainly shopping centers and Walmarts. Pretty shabby for a city of 160,000+ and you can thank rex & co. for the direction the city took….downhill and to the right.

BTW Jim. Why does Lancaster want tax sharing enough to interfere in Palmdale’s business? Oh, you mean rex doesn’t want it and Palmdale’s pushing the idea?

Robert, why don’t you ask them if it was discussed at the fundraiser? There were many within earshot. It’s not like Lancaster hasn’t brought it up before.

Remember this wonderful day? When Parris wanted to tear down the Cactus Curtain with a list of demands, one of them being what he called the “reckless disregard of the economic realities” regarding sales taxes. What is “reckless” about two neighboring cities keeping their own sales tax? Lots of cities do it. ALL of them do as a matter of fact.

The latest victim is the city of Camarillo. So far, these lawsuits have raked in a cool $16,413,000 for lawyers. Of course, Parris’ city of Lancaster still has NO VOTING DISTRICTS despite having all of its council living on the west side, all Republicans and NO LATINOS or LATINAS.

Inquiring minds should look up case number 56-2018-00522031-CU-CR-VTA. Or contact the city of Camarillo. They can give you all kinds of good information.

If Rex really cared about access for minorities as he seems to in all the cities and school districts he sues and makes a lot of money on, he would push for voting districts in Lancaster. The truth is he doesn’t want anyone who he can’t control. East Lancaster has never been represented and never will until we have voting districts.

Mayor R. Rex Parris is a hypocrite. He sues cities for voting districts but has no districts in his city. That is hypocritical.

            February 3, 2019 at 2:44 pm

Part of suing a city is that you have to find a willing resident plaintiff. I tried to find people in Lancaster who would allow such a suit to be filed on their behalf, but people in Lancaster recognize just how much power Wrecks and his cronies have. The possibility of being targeted by law enforcement was just too obvious.

Since I myself was threatened by “code enforcement with a fine tooth comb” being unleashed against my seventy year old mother I certainly couldn’t argue that they shouldn’t be concerned. So, no resident plaintiffs, no lawsuit.

District voting allowed rex to cheaply insert his candidates into an election rather than at large voting which would have required more $$$s and effort. rex got what he set out to do.

Does anyone think that Hofbauer will do anthing for those voters who sued or for the districts created for that purpose to be better served?

You can be sure that directives from rex to hofbauer and the rex minions on the council will not benefit Palmdale’s minorities just like in Lancaster.

            February 4, 2019 at 8:15 am

            V. Jesse Smith was not the main plaintiff according to the articles in the paper and the court documents. It was a man named John Juaragui or Juan Juaragui. Rex was most definitely involved as was his puppet Marvin Crist. Let us not forget the $250 dollar an hour ‘expert witness’ Darren Parker. You know Darren. He is the one calling the African American candidate that Rex smeared the ‘N’ word.

It was a motley crew of people with ulterior motives who were involved in that fiasco. The result was a loss of an African American on the council and an additional white, Rex backed Republican added.

…Chinese spies will be caught attempting to steal data from local aerospace contractors.

…Marv Crist will turn a deeper shade of red as the year progresses.

…Rex will still not say how Lancaster will dispose of the tons of toxic solar panels from its solar farms.

…a prominent Lancaster Republican will come out of the closet.

You were on a roll up to toxic solar panels, It will take 30 years for the output to degrade to 70% power and then they are retired to hobby use. You don’t see solar panel grave yards because even half power is useful to someone.

        January 12, 2019 at 11:52 am

In less than 30 years these solar farms will be repositories of worthless, outdated technology that will create an environmental nightmare. Rooftop solar is the way to go. Destroying the desert and leaving our children and grandchildren with a mess is not the way to go. But what do you expect from a man who lives in Laguna and uses the Antelope Valley just to line his pockets?

          January 12, 2019 at 1:50 pm

In less than 30 years those solar panels will still be under warranty. Rooftop or post mounted panels are still the same panels. Bashing panels only waters down your Rex argument. Stick with what you know.

Rooftop solar does not require the destruction of thousands upon thousands of acres of our desert, nor does it disturb soil which contains Vallet Fever spores. Additionally all solar panels have a shelf life and will need to be safely disposed of. What is the plan for disposing the panels in the AV?

        • PastyWhiteBob says

          January 14, 2019 at 9:18 pm

            January 18, 2019 at 1:06 pm

Put them on all parking lots. Shady parking forever, easy to replace with cheaper, higher power panels when they degrade in 30 years. Old reduced power panels will always be in demand with those that can’t afford new ones. There is no legitimate concern for disposal of old panels, nobody has ever seen a solar panel in a dumpster. Maybe in 60 years they can grind up the panels and use them to back fill a refinery.

I remember back when people were complaining they could not buy American and the main supplier then was Japan.

I wish many would quit blaming Trump for every last aspect of the current worlds problems. The problems were well in place when he came around.

If Palmdale is doing so great financially, and is “better off on their own”, then why can’t they fund the retirement plans for city employees? Why is Lancaster’s retirement plan so much better off?

Why does ONE single car dealership in Lancaster do more business than the entire Palmdale Auto Mall combined??

Kudos to Palmdale for not using tax payer dollars to fund retirement plan. Public employees have an outstanding retirement system. They should be contributing to that just like people who have retirement plans in the private sector.

Lancaster knows that Palmdale is where things are happening which is why they have intervened in their political affairs. Lancaster can’t beat Palmdale so they need to drag Palmdale down to Lancaster’s level. Sadly it’s working.

Ummmm…what does “one car dealership does good business” have to do with anything, other than brands of automobiles involved? And for the record, the fleecing that at least one of those car dealers put over on the city of Lancaster is perhaps the single greatest display of legal swindling I’ve ever seen in a very long lifetime, much of it spent in the car business.

The dealer hit them with a massive high ball offer on seven different issues, like “you have to buy my existing dealership lot for this massively inflated figure,” “you have to sell me the prime commercial property in your auto mall for this bizarrely low price,” etc etc. The intention was that all these crazy numbers were starting points for negotiation, and the rankly amateur ‘negotiators’ for the city basically said “okay, we’ll give you all of that if you give us a good deal on a car for the city manager.” My boss came back to the lot pretty much staggering like a drunk he was laughing so hard about the amount of money they had just given him, for nothing.

That’s what comes of hiring city managers and senior staff whose only qualification is “will faithfully help out the good ol’ boys in their schemes to bilk the city.”

Employees contribute part and Palmdale pays part, just like Social Security works. Unlike Lancaster, there are no insider deals such as LEAPS and Kensington where political contributors get no bid contracts. Nor are there crazy schemes like Ecolution and Traction Seal which make money for the good old boys. We’ve all seen what a $10,000 contribution by a BYD executive to the Parris re election fund gets you, an all electric fleet of buses that a city like Albuquerque is suing over.

There’s a reason why Lancaster pols want to share sales tax with Palmdale and not vice-versa. Palmdale is doing fine on its own and doesn’t need Lancaster’s backdoor and sleazy ways for it to run. Or should I say Palmdale WAS doing fine. Now it has a Lancaster council running the show.

From the editorial: Let’s be clear. Whether Keller ever liked this project is irrelevant. What is relevant is he has an absolute duty not to knowingly put an unsafe product on the streets or to pay for buses that don’t work as advertised. So IF his team is correct in its assessment of BYD’s product, he’s done the right thing.

If Palmdale and Lancaster don’t start cooperating on a regional level very soon, then we’ll all be screwed.

At present, the San Fernando Valley division of the Southern California Association of Governments controls all the way up to Agua Dulce. Had Lancaster and Palmdale had their sh!t together early on, we could have had a regional entity and brought Santa Clarita, Agua Dulce, Acton and other nearby localities in with us, and had much more power. We had nothing to offer and, therefor, Santa Clarita joined up with the San Fernando Valley instead.

What was stopping us was “Palmdale First” and digging their heels in, or throwing tantrums about everything we tried to do.

Palmdale and Lancaster need to form their own regional governing association to be able to have a stake in what gets done in L.A. County. If we don’t, we are rendered powerless.

New leadership in Palmdale means a chance to cooperate as a region and get things for BOTH cities that will benefit BOTH cities.

The pettiness of the so-called “Cactus Curtain” is archaic and belongs in the past.

Common Sense, are you serious? Was it Palmdale First that declared war on Section 8 and dragged the AV into a DOJ investigation? Was it Palmdale First who continually sued Palmdale at every turn? Was it Palmdale First who sued Palmdale, Santa Clarita, Highland, and other jurisdictions for voting districts? Was it Palmdale First who made accusations against AVTA management which were thrown out in court? Was it Palmdale First who regularly embarrassed the AV with idiotic ideas such as bird sounds lowering crime, bringing ‘the gays and Asians’ to the BLVD would lower crime and raise educational levels, and that an African American veteran was a ‘gang candidate’?

There is a regional economic board already established. Its name is the Greater Antelope Valley Economic Association. So long as it is controlled by the Fern St. Mafia, it will do nothing except serve the interests of the good old boys.

The AV is strongest with two vibrant cities bringing two forces to the table whether on the county or state level. With Parris and his cohorts involved, that will never happen because they only have their selfish interests in mind.

Palmdale, stay strong and do not let the Parris network rob you of what your founders created years ago.

That is why he has worked hard to systematically destroy Palmdale through endless lawsuits and interloping. Now that he successfully removed Ledford, he will dismantle the management of the city. After that is done, he will have Hofbauer removed and Palmdale will he absorbed into the mess that is Lancaster.

However, as I’ve said all along, Wrecks and his cronies are a constant grind and were going to win eventually, because they were never going to give up. They have Lancaster teetering on the edge of broke, and they need a new source of funds.

So, I’m happy enough to just wish the foolish voters of Palmdale good fortune. I’ll be well out of reach of Wrecks and Sellout Steve, and my property already is.

I’ve already dropped GEICO for other reasons. As for McDonald’s, I quit them years ago for the worst food. I don’t use the rest anyway.

Now I know what to do with the Capital One credit card invitations I get almost every week. Return them with a comment that they advertise on fox news.

fox has been losing advertizers steadily lately due to the racist and other offensive commentary by their low life hosts such as hannity, ingraham, carlson et al. Wrecks has done it again. A new low even by his standards.

Now he is ranting about what he thinks is an ‘inexcusable’ statement by someone who used the word ‘colored’ in reference to racist comments made by a candidate his political machine is backing.

Is he completely whacked? This is from Wrecks the hypocrite who calls black candidates “gang” candidates because….well….they’re black. Right?

What did rex say? “It’s A-OK! If It’s politics” to use racism to win a race?

The man who ran out the back door of city hall when the vote came up for Lancaster to be a “rule of law” city? Then LIED about his not voting on “rule of law” on a Hispanic radio show? Saying he voted against it? You know? A lie?

The man who wants to attract the “Asians and THE Gays” to his blvd cuz they’ll lower crime and raise the education levels.

The man who ran a war against people of color on Section 8?

The man who declares war on gangs that are predominantly filled with POC, but was single handedly responsible for disbanding the AV Human Relations Task Force that had been set up in response to the out of control gangs in the AV, like the nazi lowriders, peckerwoods and skinheads?

The man who slaughtered almost 2,000 family pets because they were owned by black or brown men?
And shamelessly bragged about it at a city council meeting?

The man who used 5.5 million in HUD funds for his social
engineering experiment called the artists lofts? Where if poor folk were to live on his blvd of broken dreams, they would be artsy and, for the most part, pale?

The man now wagging a war against POC who are homeless?

Yes, actually he does. When the lawsuit over districting was being fought the courts conclusion that lack of districting meant poor representation was pretty obvious. The decision that it was more likely than not racially motivated was based largely on Hofbauer’s deposition, where his history of racist remarks was discussed under oath and couldn’t be denied.

In a lawsuit against Palmdale, the ONLY settlement will be by Palmdale. That’s how that works. As to “that includes Mayor Ledford,” indeed it did, since he was the mayor. It also included Sellout Steve Hofbauer, since he was on the city council. It also included every resident of Palmdale. But the one with the deposition full of racist incidents and comments was Sellout Steve.

I personally think the city should have implemented a districting plan on our own as soon as there was a hint of a lawsuit, or even before. Since we didn’t, we had to not only come up with a plan, but we had to negotiate every step along the way with the court and with a hostile lawyer who was only involved to drag the proceedings out as long as possible and cost Palmdale as much as possible.

You’re all a bunch of cackling hens that believe the lies you’ve been telling each other for years. Rex Parris demanded an apology from the NAACP, and he didn’t get it. Has nothing to do with Hofbauer. The truth is Hofbauer is not a racist. When ever people want to play dirty and spread falsehood, just call someone a racist. The usual suspects have been commenting on here spreading the usual lies. No facts at all, right? None of you can prove what you say. Let’s see some proof. I thought not.

            You are pathetic.

Now the DUI Drew led Hofbauer campaign was itoday telling people that if Ledford is re-elected that it will cost the people of Palmdale $250,000 for bail to get you him of jail. A bunch of pathetic liars. They are really playing dirty.

NAACP legal action against both cities. Both Mayor Ledford and Mayor Parris equally adamant tough stance on Section 8 not racially motivated. Meanwhile the First African Methodist Church is firebombed in Palmdale, along with vandalism occurring at Section 8 houses. Steve Hobauer is Not a racist, but apparently there are a lot of people that live in Palmdale and Lancaster that are.

Truth is, racism permeates both Palmdale and Lancaster. Steve Hofbauer is not a racist, but you should remind yourselves about what happened in your own city of Palmdale, and what is still going on. Remember what happened at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in the fine city of Palmdale? Remember the vandalism on Section 8 Houses in the fine city of Palmdale? Plenty of racism on a daily basis from the citizens of both cities.

under Palmdale’s façade lies a very long history of racial violence. “Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.” Palmdale is no better than Lancaster when it comes to crimes against minorities. The AME Church in Palmdale can attest to that, so instead of pointing fingers at an elected official, why don’t you address the ignorance that leads to violence in your own community.

          • Tim Scott says

            November 2, 2018 at 11:18 am

Being an elected official puts a person in the public eye. Just because I contest against Sellout Steve’s racism in the public eye, where he has placed himself, don’t assume that I don’t fight the same battle outside the public eye with people who have not placed themselves in it.

Though, for the record, very often this sort of battle held in the public eye is a very good way to impact that widespread ignorance of which you speak. Allowing racism in the town square invites it into the town’s homes. Rejecting it in the town square sends the opposite message. A very good reason to reject Sellout Steve come Tuesday…and again two years later. Personally, I think his selling out to the Lancaster power brokers is an even better reason, but that doesn’t mean his racism isn’t a good one.

Palmdale florist Chris Spicher, and Lancaster social media marketer Jim Greenleaf, began an effort to encourage civility between the two cities with an initiative called “AV Nice.” Isn’t it wonderful to see nice people doing nice things in both cities. The constant drama that a few want to hang on to does nothing but hurt both cities. Words from a developer that works in both cities.

“Be nice” is fine. “Cooperation” is a two way street, and when one end of the street is being embezzled into bankruptcy there isn’t much available to flow the other way. So until Lancaster overcomes their corruption problem it’s fine to be nice, but Palmdale needs to keep a hand on our wallet.

            October 18, 2018 at 8:08 am

Those videos are very nice. What is not nice is the track record of Wrecks and his associates in their dealings with Palmdale. They sued Palmdale and Santa Clarita and other school districts for voting districts he will not use himself. Wrecks has attempted to ruin Palmdale residents through the DA’s office, tried to stop the power plant, wants to take Palmdale’s sales tax dollars through a sham sharing agreement, badmouths Palmdale every chance he has, and was suspiciously ready to offer a deal to Kinkisharo to build in Lancaster after his lackey and their so-called ‘environmental’ group killed the project in Palmdale.

Search the the AV Time for his bogus press conference where he calls for an end to the ‘Cactus Curtain’ and then reads a list of demands.

The AV is a wonderful place. It has a problem though, and it’s name is Wrecks. Not even those nice videos can hide his blemish on this place.

“Social media marketer” Jim Greenleaf is taking this opportunity to try to drum up some traffic for his AV Nice website. I have no problem with that. People on the other side of the Cactus Curtain are just as likely to be good people as the people on this side of it. But until the government of Lancaster changes significantly Lancaster needs to be politically quarantined for the protection of everyone.
