It’s amazing to me how there seem to be almost weekly stories about pedestrians getting struck by the the Metrolink. How hard is it to look before you cross the rails?

I am just too busy to look up from my phone, I need to beat my angry birds high score, set up my music playlist and take a selfie of myself standing on the train tracks with a speeding train in the background…

I concur. Too bad those pedestrians don’t get the fact that it doesn’t matter who is in the “right” if your dead.

When I was a youngster there was a public service campaign for bicycle safety that had the theme “don’t be dead right.” That really stuck with me for some reason, and I’m grateful for it.

I witnessed this and was so shocked! The guy was wearing headphones and looking down clearly not paying attention. put one foot on the tracks and then bam the train caught his eye!!!! When I rolled by thankfully this nurse got out of her car and started helping him also another pedestrian with a dog. definitely the worse thing I have ever seen. Now I need to educate my children to take their headphones off when walking.

Mention to your kids that cars are far more common than trains, lest they think they only need to pay attention around train tracks. I see a whole lot of youngsters who seem to think that the lines of a crosswalk are going to shield them from cars and they don’t even need to look up as they step off between them. If they get run over they will be “in the right” and the driver will be “in the wrong,” but it’s still them that is gonna be squashed.
And make sure you get any care that you need. Seeing a traumatic event may seem like something we just have to “shake off,” but it can do more damage than we give it credit for. Be safe.

Not trying to be a nosy nit, but I saw this too…it was horrid. I called 911 immediately. I was Northbound going left on Sierra Hwy, first in line at the light and intersection. Was it as bad as it looked. I could not get any info from the Sheriff or any non-existent press releases. It looked like… well…can you contact me at rlwdude@gmail.com and give me more details or let me share what I saw…I don’t see how he could have survived.
