Woman killed in head-on collision in Rosamond

by The AV Times Staff • August 7, 2018

ROSAMOND – A female driver died Monday evening after she was ejected from her vehicle in a head-on collision in Rosamond, authorities said.

Katlyn Alyse Whempner, 27, of Rosamond was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 5:55 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, on Mojave Tropico Road just north of Rosamond Boulevard, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Whempner was driving a 2007 Ford Focus northbound on Mojave Tropico Road at an undetermined speed when her vehicle drifted onto the dirt shoulder during a curve in the roadway.

“Ms. Whempner apparently attempted to steer the Ford back into the northbound traffic lane, but over corrected. The Ford crossed the northbound traffic lane and struck a southbound 2017 Honda Civic being driven by Ms. Tammy Monterroso, age 27, of Rosamond,” the news release states.

“The head-on impact caused the Ford to rotate in a counterclockwise manner. Due to Ms. Whempner being unrestrained, she was ejected through the passenger side window of the Ford and came to rest in the northbound traffic lane,” the news release states.

The other driver [Monterroso] was wearing her seatbelt and sustained a severe cut to her right leg. She was transported by ground ambulance to Antelope Valley Hospital,” according to the news release.

Inattentive driving while texting caused this. She ran off on the shoulder, and overcorrected into the oncoming Lane

Texting and driving compounded with a lack of seatbelt doomed this lady the moment she started her engine. So sad do unnecessary.

The part about not wearing a seat belt is a fact stated in the article and I would assume shows up as reports of the victim being ejected from the car. I cannot understand how anyone today could ride in a car let alone drive without wearing a seat belt.

No matter what caused the accident, my friend has lost his daughter. Life was lost. Quit judging. God bless.

Too bad Tammy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not fair to her. When people drive recklessly they put other innocent people in danger. It’s like walking around with a loaded handgun in public and playing around with the trigger.

Pretty sure both were innocent considering it was a ACCIDENT. A loaded hand gun is far from comparison in this situation. You must be one of those “better than all” type of person. EVERYONE IS guilty at some point in life of looking at their phone. Btw did it say she was on her phone?? The fact is someone lost their life a young mom at that, someone else was injured out of her control but still has her life. You need to wake up and realize that you still have your family the other people do not. Let it be something we take and learn from not judge from. God bless you

Taking a corner too fast, wearing no seatbelt, and likely looking at her phone or texting. Darwin;s theory. I drive that way every day and was there that day. Law enforcement had the road blocked and wouldn’t let me though, so I knew it thad to be a fatality accident and I figures its was on that corner around the Tropical gold mine mountain. People are always rolling their car around that mountain by driving too fast and hitting the soft sand on the shoulder of the road.

Are you [removed] kidding me right now? Yes very unfortunate that Tammy was In the wrong place at the wrong time as you say, not unfortunate that someone ACCIDENTALLY hit her and lost her life? SMFH what a damn shame you are. You have no [removed] idea what this loss is causing to the family of the deceased, so be greatful Tammy is alive. People assume so much. No matter the report or opinion of whomever will change this situation. Unfortunately people like you make it harder on this poor womans family that are obviously torn apart! I’ll pray for you along with me praying for the. You obviously need help too…
