    COULD IT BE?

Your mother, your sister, your father, or your brother?
Just with a different face or even a different skin color
She hears voices, she cannot sleep
She goes to the clinic week after week
    Living outside under a bridge
She had no place to live, so they took her kids
Now she has no one to love her
COULD IT BE, that she is YOUR MOTHER?

Long is her journey, and hard is her fight
Will the pills that they prescribe her, make her right?
She has no place to live, so she walks the streets at night
She works for him, she calls him mister
She has no shoes on her feet now she has blister
COULD IT BE, that she is YOUR SISTER?

He have served his country, he survived the war
But he could not find a job, so he ended up behind bars
When he got out, he had nowhere to go
Now he’s living on skid row
He hides behind the alcohol, but he wants to help himself
So he went to the VA, and they sent him to mental health
He has a family, a son and a daughter
COULD IT BE, that he is YOUR FATHER?

He have journeyed a different road, he has a different story to tell
He did not know that he was bipolar, and he got thrown in jail
He went in and served his time
But when he got out, no family could he find
Now he sleeps on a park bench, and uses a card board box as his cover
He was molested by a father of another
COULD IT BE, that he is YOUR BROTHER?

These are just a few stories that I have heard
As I go in this community to serve
From the less fortunate, the under-served, and our neighbors who are homeless
If you have shelter, you should count yourselves blessed

    If this is your community
Let’s come together & bring unity
We are not just broken, we are broken beautifully
We have been given an awesome opportunity
To make AV a place where people can come to Live, Thrive, Become, & Grow
Don’t you know the world is a ghetto
So let’s make our ghetto BEAUTIFUL!!!

“Now the dictionary says, That the ghetto is a place
Of minority, and poverty, and over population.
We live on this earth together, Ain’t no separation.
When you’re looking down, From outer space.
We’re just a human race and the world is a ghetto” [India Arie]

We can try to redefine it,
Or we can learn how to live in it
    And beautify it
And make others want to duplicate it

You see, we have jobs to do
We have a community to serve
So let’s continue to serve with excellence

Because Remember, It COULD BE you, your mother, your father, your sister, or your son
And the service that we give, may it always be rendered in LOVE.

Yeah, but some of them like to be filthy sidewalk vegetables and want me to pay for it.

Wow, that should get me tarred and feathered (if it’s published, lol).

it’s a sad case here in the Antelope Valley and I blame the mayor it makes promises that he doesn’t keep he doesn’t like the homeless he doesn’t want them in Antelope Valley so why open a shelter so more will come we need a new mayor the only homeless shelter we had was Grace Resource and it closed down and he did nothing to stop it or fight for it

Please maintain clarity. You are talking about the mayor of LANCASTER, not the mayor of the Antelope Valley (which there is none). While Palmdale does not have a homeless shelter, we do provide a lot of housing resources and are working on solutions as best we can with the resources available.

It is sad to drive around town and see the houses for sale. They are usually well-kept indicating the occupant lived here for a while, but who wants to live in a town inundated with Section 8 people walking the streets? And, now, the city and the county want to give permanent housing to those who are homeless. And you expect people with families to put down 300k and up to buy a new house and live in this environment? I don’t think so.

Michael, you were a voice of reason at the most recent Lancaster city council meeting. It is sad that the mayor will not listen to anyone who disagrees with him. Much could be accomplished with collaboration.

What happened to the million dollars the County gave to Lancaster for the homeless? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? Parris? Anyone? Crist? Buckler? Anyone?

Unfortunately AV has been the dumping grounds for all the unwanted down below. The biggest mistake that was made was when the major toke funding from the Fed’s. You will have to take all the Fed’s unwanted. The community has been destroyed because of this. AV will be the 2nd Compton. It’s running all the good people out of the community. So sad to see what our community has turned to be. I wish and hope the major will cleaned up the community.

Wait until you end up out there lady .It’s happened to the best of Lancaster residents being out on the streets with no help from you .People of Lancaster need to come together and at lease provide zero degree sleeping bags and tents and a place safe to put them .Reach out and care for someone in need

I agree 100% This town is turning into ghetto! The mayor wanted the money to have a fancy down town! He got a fancy ghetto – skid roll!
      Everyone wants to move!
I’m embarrassed to tell people I live here! Lancaster has been ruined!
