Bike, pedestrian safety operation planned for Lancaster this Wednesday

by The AV Times Staff • September 4, 2017

LANCASTER – Extra officers will be on duty in Lancaster this Wednesday, Sept. 6,  issuing citations to drivers, bike riders and pedestrians who violate traffic laws, authorities announced.

The “Bike & Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation” is part of an overall effort to lower deaths and injuries, according to a news release by the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

“Officers will be looking for violations made by drivers, bike riders and pedestrians alike that can lead to life changing injuries. Special attention will be directed toward drivers speeding, making illegal turns, failing to stop for signs and signals, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks or any other dangerous violation,” the news release states.

“Additionally, enforcement will be taken for observed violations when pedestrians cross the street illegally or fail to yield to drivers who have the right of way… Pedestrians should cross the street only in marked crosswalks or at corners,” the news release states.

“Bike riders will be stopped and citations issued when they fail to follow the same traffic laws that apply to motorists. All riders are reminded to always wear a helmet – those under 18 years of age must wear helmets by law,” the news release states.

Funding for Lancaster Sheriff Station’s Bike and Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It’s pretty darn annoying driving down 10th st. W and having to slam on my breaks because a self entitled welfare junkie is walking slow in the middle of the road, stopping in front of me and giving me a cold ass stare. I honk my horn to make him get the hell out of the way and he tells me to get out and fight him. …???… clearly not all his dogs are barking. With this kind of crap that’s happened a hand full of times, I don’t mind law enforcement giving these kind of dum dums a pricey ticket, holding them accountable and making em pay in court or jail. If they had much to lose and weren’t suckling off the teet of poverty pimps, they wouldn’t be so stupid and idiotic. I’ll give the safety operation props.

… things are so bad at the Michael D Antonovich Superior Court, now they’re cooking up sting operations, on bicyclists and pedestrians –

Lancaster station needs to do the same thing! All these bike lanes being put in and they still ride on the sidewalk, ride through crosswalks and use no hand signals.

Admittedly, the Palmdale byline is a bit confusing. But I think “AV Times Staff” lives in Palmdale, so that is most likely where the story was written.
