EDWARDS AFB – The U.S. Air Force is investigating the death of an airman assigned to Edwards Air Force Base.
Senior Airman Joseph Connors of the 812th Civil Engineer Squadron, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight, died after an incident that occurred Wednesday evening, according to a news release by Edwards Air Force Base Public Affairs.
“The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m., Aug. 23, near the base’s north gate on Edwards AFB property. The north gate entrance was closed for a period of time due to the investigation,” the news release states.
The news release gave no details on how Connors died.
The circumstances surrounding the death were not being released to the media at this time, a public affairs representative said Thursday afternoon.
According to the news release, Brig. Gen. Carl Schaefer, 412th Test Wing commander, issued the following statement to the base populace Thursday:
“I’m heartbroken to announce the loss of one of our valuable teammates … Senior Airman Connors was one of our ‘rock star’ Airmen — Airman Leadership School distinguished graduate and our 2016 Wing Airman of the Year. He is survived by his active duty spouse, who is also a vital member of our wing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her, our EOD team, and all those supporting in the wake of this tragedy.”
No further information was immediately available Thursday.

No remorse says
Heard from my serviceman neighbor that this guy was on his way to a murder/suicide against his wife. He was stopped by base police and while they were getting his credentials checked, he killed himself. So he does not deserve any sympathy. His widow is alive because the base police thought something was off. Good riddance.

Nine times out of ten, c/o ordered a code-red on the boy. Now, USAF officer will have to busy themselves covering it up, dredging up some plausible, convenient circumstance to dis it off on. No worries, pretty good at it, they do it all the time.

… five gets you ten his sergeant marched him into the desert, to his death, but for no good reason than showing him who’s the boss –

Well, the military does pretty much function on the clear knowledge of “who’s the boss.” Most everything they do is geared towards re-enforcement of that concept. Meanwhile, at Edwards AFB there is no ‘marching into the desert.’ They are IN the desert to start with. Could have been standard PT gone wrong, or could be something else entirely.
