LANCASTER – Two suspected drug addicts were arrested and a gun, ammunition and surveillance equipment were seized when deputies executed a search warrant in Lancaster recently, authorities said.

The bust happened around 3 p.m. Thursday, June 15, on the 45000 block of Kingtree Avenue, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“The Lancaster Community Appreciation Program (LAN-CAP), in conjunction with Lancaster Sheriff’s Station narcotics investigators, developed information that led to a search warrant at a home,” the news release states. “Deputies executed the search warrant… looking for a specific gun.”

“Two male adults were arrested at the home and the gun deputies were searching for was located,” the news release states. “The gun, a mini 14 rifle with a sawed butt stock was seized, along with a high capacity magazine, large amounts of ammunition and surveillance equipment.”

The two suspects were transported to the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Jail and booked on suspicion of several felony charges, including an addict in possession of a firearm and possession of an assault rifle, sheriff’s officials said. The suspects’ names were not immediately released.

The LANCAP team has served about 20 search warrants this year in their ongoing efforts to keep guns and drugs off the streets, according to the news release.

I see the deputies removed another typical drug offender from the streets. Those wanting to get softer on drug convictions fail to see that these dopers don’t want treatment or a job. They want drugs. They will steal, rob and use all manner of violence to get their drugs.

Then I read the comments of those most in favor of letting these guys out of prison don’t take responsibility for their voting for the propositions that release these skitch bags onto the street. Instead……oh…it’s the mayor of Lancaster’s fault.

The Mayor of Lancaster is a megalomaniac who makes ridiculous statements, and who is self admittedly weird.(Other people may disagree with the weird diagnosis and suggest he is more than weird).

What does that have to do with the deplorable conditions in Lancaster?

… trickling down from our newly militarized community police, the advent, diffusion and proliferation of this newfangled surveillance technology now upon us, these two-strike career criminals no longer need be hot prowl burglars. Very inexpensively, without stepping one foot out of their cars, equipped the most modest of surveillance gear, these guys can tell which homes have people in them, and which ones don’t —

“An addict in possession of a firearm” charge? Did I miss something or was the press release typed up by a drunken deputy?

I agree that charge does sound bogus, but it is an actual charge.

      California Penal Code Section 29800
29800. (a) (1) Any person who has been convicted of a felony under the laws of the United States, the State of California, or any other state, government, or country, or of an offense enumerated in subdivision (a), (b), or (d) of Section 23515, or who is addicted to the use of any narcotic drug, and who owns, purchases, receives, or has in possession or under custody or control any firearm is guilty of a felony.

Wow. I’d be really interested in the case if someone got prosecuted under that section. To the best of my knowledge there is no strict legal definition for “is addicted to the use of.”

Thanks for the citation there John. I just figured the guy was a felon.

And Ron…since nothing I said could be interpreted as “I want druggies to have guns” I’m just going to assume that you are either an idiot or trying to “pick a fight” from the remote reach of your keyboard because you have no guts to go out and pick one for real.

Most people who own guns now legally are drug addicts

It’s not an assault rifle by CA law. It doesn’t have a flash suppressor, collapsible stock, pistol grip+stock. CA law is wacky that way. However, there is a federal law about turning a rifle into a pistol.

There’s never a dull moment in Lancaster. Especially lately, with our illustrious Mayor Rex going off at the mouth again. Can you believe what he said about the Chinese and (his words, not mine) The Gays?

    Check out these articles. Priceless!
