Driver killed in 14 Freeway crash

by City News Service • May 31, 2017

ACTON – A driver was killed early Wednesday morning when the van he was driving became stuck on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in the Acton area and was struck by a big rig.

The victim was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Astro van around 1 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, when the vehicle became disabled in the northbound number four lane south of Escondido Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The van was struck by a 2010 Freightliner tractor/trailer combination driven by a 40-year-old Palmdale man, the CHP reported.

The impact ejected the van driver onto the freeway, where he was possibly struck by another vehicle, according to the CHP.

The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name, age and hometown were not immediately available.

The big rig driver was not hurt.

The crash closed three southbound lanes until just after 7 a.m.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as factors in the crash.

Because witnesses reported a third vehicle may have been involved, investigators are asking anyone who may have seen or has information about the crash to call the CHP’s Newhall Area office at 661-294-5540.

… in the span of an hour more people die in car accidents, than from a decade of terrorism. Yet, the only war on car accidents our government ever waged was, lining their pockets and stuffing the coffers, on traffic ticket revenue –

I dunno about “in an hour,” but there’s no question that traffic fatalities kill a whole lot of people. The question is what to do about it.

Traffic law, and enforcement of traffic law, seems to be at least a necessary part of reducing the problem, but certainly can’t eliminate it. The process of enforcement could be better. The available manpower is frequently deployed based on effectiveness as fine-miners rather than in reducing fatalities. And of course any law put into the hands of badged thugs is subject to blatant misuse in bullying.

For myself, since I don’t really have a solution to propose that would in any way offer an elimination of the fatalities, or even reliably reduce them, I generally stay out of it, other than as it relates to fine-mining and badged thuggery.

        Moamarie mentions ‘government’.

The ‘government’ has put in place all kinds of regulations with regard to auto safety by the car companies. Moamarie would likely be against motorcycle helmets and seat belt laws because s/he is an idiot as we can see by the post.

You seem to have missed the laws regarding seat belt use, the implementation of air bag systems and safety glass, crumple zones both in cars and in guard rails, better markings on streets for separation of vehicles and bicycles/pedestrians, drunk driving (your papers please) checkpoints..
Yeah not too much going there at all.
