Driver arrested for DUI after Palmdale pursuit

PALMDALE – – A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after driving a borrowed U-Haul truck at high speeds and recklessly through Palmdale until two tires were flattened by a spike strip, authorities said Monday.

Deputies initiated a pursuit of the vehicle around 10:05 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at Avenue R-8 and 40th Street East when it was observed speeding on the wrong side of the road and blowing through red lights, said Lt. Ron Shaffer of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies broke off the pursuit after about a mile for safety reasons because the driver was being erratic in his effort to evade them, Shaffer said.

A sheriff’s helicopter tracked the U-Haul until it was driven over a spike strip at 25th Street East and Avenue Q, and the suspect got out and gave up.

He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, the lieutenant said.

His name was not immediately released.

It appeared a friend of the suspect’s had rented the U-Haul truck and allowed the suspect to drive it, Shaffer said.

When a person decides to run from the cops rather than pull over it is not a mistake, it is a decision and a bad one. It also often indicates the person s guilt, feelings of guilt, criminal intentions, criminal lifestyle for some people, and of course distrust of officers because some officers are crooked and do have it out for some people (however I do not think that applies here).
As to who can judge… anyone can judge another. Only God can make the final judgement (If you are a believer).

I live in East Palmdale and, I have to say that some of the warmest, most caring and nicest people I know live here too and are my neighbors. We look out for each other, celebrate each others families and life events and there is a genuine sense of community where there is a lot of soul.

We may not have a gate around our community, or boats, or fancy cars or the latest iPhone, but I think many of us are content.

I have lived in other places that were said to be “nicer” but honestly, the people there were cold, backstabbers and constantly trying to outdo each other or put up a false front. Those kinds of places are stale, chronically unhappy, soulless and people are always trying to undercut each other or buy things out of spite.

I didn’t like living that way. East Palmdale may not be the prettiest, nicest looking place in Southern California, but I can honestly tell you that at this point, I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

Well said. Shane needs a gate because he spews so much hate that he needs the protection.

I really do hate to have a negative response to this article but it didn’t happen at 25th and Q but at the end of Landon Ave and Ave Q. The suspects didn’t give up bur were apprehended by the sheriff deputies during a foot persuit after the suspects fled the U-Haul after it almost his a vehicle which was parked at the curb. Please get the facts correct.

Don’t throw in the tattoo’s in your racial profiling. Prison tattoos are one thing, art is another. Thank you and have a nice day.
