Palmdale man pleads to abusing dog, killing another

by The AV Times Staff • April 4, 2017

LANCASTER – A 23-year-old Palmdale man pleaded no contest to beating and kicking two of his family’s dogs, including one that had to be euthanized as a result of its injuries.

Andres Garcia entered the plea Tuesday to one felony count of cruelty to an animal, according to Deputy District Attorney Amarilla Blondia.

Garcia is expected to be sentenced April 19 to 489 days already served in jail, five years of felony probation and 30 days of community labor. He must also complete 48 animal cruelty counseling sessions, and will be barred from owning any animal for 10 years, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The case stems from an incident that occurred Aug. 31, 2015, at Garcia’s home in the 5800 block of Saint Laurent Drive in Palmdale. Garcia kicked and chased two dogs — both Chihuahuas — causing serious injuries to the pets, the prosecutor said.

Garcia’s family called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to the home after they were unable to stop the attack, and Garcia swung one of the Chihuahuas at a responding deputy, the prosecutor said.

Garcia resisted arrest and had to be restrained and taken into custody on a stretcher.

One of the dogs had to be euthanized due to the severity of its injuries. The case was investigated by the Sheriff’s Department, Palmdale Station, and the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.

It makes me sick to read about this stuff, little dogs are so defenseless, what on earth could they of done? Drugs and a mean streak. The punishment was not enough.

I’ve read that serial killers start out by abusing animals. I think Jeff Dommer…. to hurt any living thing physically you must be evil. Hopefully they will beat him in prison.

I feel bad for this guy the punishment do not fit the crime it’s people who kill people in doing less time than this guy for kicking an animal I don’t believe animals should be equal to human beings when there’s people in the streets that people walk by everyday and would not help but they’ll bend over backwards for an animal

He did not just kick the animal. The injuries led to the dog’s death.
I get the basic human thought of people first. There is also a thought that humans, being the so called smartest on the planet, should be able to work things out for themselves. Whereas animals, often thought of as dumb, have to live in a human centric world where there are deadly dangers created by humans and they need our protection. After all, the animals did not create this mess or ask for it, we humans did.
Perhaps we need to increase punishment for human on human deaths. Also stop immortilizing the killers.

Unbelievable… He should have received more time. Not knowing the whole story I’m assuming they were family pet’s (members of the family). We have pet’s for unconditional love. The main reason why people hold pets in high regards is because how humans treat each other. As people we don’t acknowledge each other but if you have a dog then we interact because of the dog. So dogs play a very important part of our existence because they make us interact with others if you own a dog or not. I love my Chihuahua, pitbull, rottweiler, bishone, and my chinese crested. They all live together in one house with the Chihuahua in charge. In short we can learn from dogs. We as humansare the smartest but generally don’t care for each other. Dogs depend on humans…

There are dogs and there are rats. Chihuahuas are ill-tempered nasty barking rats that serve no purpose. He probably had enough of their B. S. It’s okay to kill rats and mice, right!
Eliminate all Chihuahuas and Pitbulls so the world can be a better place.

They are not rats! All dogs are different, some are more high strung than others but don’t blame the breed, I know some very sweet pit bulls and Chihuahuas, it’s how they are treated and raised.

The punishment HARDLY fits the crime. When I read this my blood pressure went sky high. His probation period shud only be applied AFTER he’s served a mandatory 10 years. Not 489 frikken days. That’s less than a tiny slap on the wrist. I can’t believe the leniency shown to this piece of garbage. And he swung one of the poor little dogs at a deputy…. Who shudda shot him at that point. So this creep gets out and what’s next? Kicking a baby to death bcuz it cried or drop kicking and throwing a small child against a wall bcuz of who knows what? This crime screams of possible probable repeat offenses. Too bad citizen arrests don’t include citizen execution. I’d be waiting to pick his a:# up when released.

You need to read the story again I believe he received a fair sentence ..It’s 5 yrs probation and he’s been in prison for 489 days which jail time served 48 animal cruelty counseling sessions and 30 days community service…

You must be a family member because that was a soft sentence. This moron needs to be locked up for a long time he clearly has zero regard for life, what’s next he’s going to beat a family member to death? That’s how killers are made.
