‘Power Rangers’ actor gets 6 years for roommate’s stabbing death

LANCASTER – An actor who appeared in the children’s television series “Power Rangers Samurai” was sentenced Thursday to six years in state prison for fatally stabbing his roommate with a sword during an argument over the defendant’s girlfriend.

Ricardo Medina, 38, pleaded guilty March 16 to voluntary manslaughter for the Jan. 31, 2015, killing of Josh Sutter, 36, at the home the two shared in Green Valley.

The two men had gotten into an argument about Medina’s girlfriend and the dispute turned physical, with Medina stabbing Sutter multiple times with a sword, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Medina was initially arrested shortly after Sutter’s killing, then released after prosecutors asked for further investigation into the man’s death.

He was re-arrested in January 2016 on a murder charge, which was dismissed as a result of his plea.

Sutter’s father, Donald, spoke out during the sentencing hearing Thursday in a Lancaster courtroom.

“We also hope that everyone that looks at Ricardo from now on will never see him as a celebrity, but as nothing more than a cold-blooded killer,” Donald Sutter said.

This is a classic example of what has become of the California criminal justice system. A life is worth 6 years. Imagine what happens if you steal or assault someone. Prop 47 and ab109 will put people convicted back out in just days. California voters get what they deserve as crime rises and arrests go down. By the way make sure you thank the 9th circuit for the upswing. They are some real geniuses.

My son was just sentenced to 6 years in prison for disuading a witness ( trying to convince his girlfriends mother not to press charges on him for pushing her onto the bed ).

That part …only 6 years what kind of [removed] is that because he’s a power ranger he has that much power to practally get away with murder… That’s just down right disrespect to all us normal people because if we’re one of us normal people we would of been sentenced 25 to life!!! I could imagine how the victims family must be feeling right now …The system is [removed] .. we the people need to fight.

Or better yet, learn to read. He wasn’t convicted of murder, so he didn’t get sentenced as if he had been. That’s pretty standard.
