DUI checkpoint in Lancaster this Friday

by The AV Times Staff • March 13, 2017

LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Services Detail will be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Lancaster this Friday, March 17, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. They also will check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Funding for this operation is provided to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Sheriff’s Department advises residents to plan ahead with these tips:

  • Arrange rides home for your friends, family, co-workers and yourself before the drinking begins.
  • Identify and provide free non-alcoholic drinks or other promotional items to the designated driver.
  • Party hosts and servers should limit drinks to guests or patrons. Don’t serve more than one or two drinks over several hours.
  • Cut back on the amount of drinks you plan to bring to a party, and provide plenty of food.

@smhX2 You are a typical liberal moron. no one actually voted for Trump. They voted against Hillary clinton

and the Liberal agenda. By trump winning it proves how bad your agenda is . America was lied to over and over

by the previous admin. You cant fight fire with handouts and liberal literal kiddy gloves. If you do not think this country is under attack you are blind. I left landscatter 6 years ago and watch the the press to see how much worse it has gotten. Its not because of trump that your murder rate and crime rate has skyrocketed . Its because it has become a gangland and because of the liberals that behavior is acceptable because those are the votes they want . Unemployed , lazy, free hand out having baby making fools. Enjoy!

… what is wrong with you? What is your major malfunction? Stooping to their behavior bodes poorly for conservatism. We’re better off without cyber-bullies like you, who believe name-calling people who disagree with you wins arguments –

… yet another brazen violation, of our Founding Father’s once proud constitution. Indeed, America’s best days, well behind her –

For something to be deemed unconstitutional, there has to be a constitution. George Bush’s Patriot Act having effectively eliminated America’s 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th amendments, technically, America’s constitution no longer exists as a robust, meaningful constraint. America’s 1st and 2nd amendments hanging by a thread, it’s 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th amendments hopelessly breached, bureaucracy can pretty much do what it pleases, whenever it pleases, however it pleases, to whomever it pleases, save who may. Bureaucracy run amok, our elected officials no longer running our government, only thing you can do, as the whole thing inevitably crumbles into a police state is, stand clear, afford it as wide a berth as humanly possible.

    @ Tim Scott,
From someone how did not know DUI (sobriety) driver license check points were constitutional. I did not know that ICE/ATP/FBI needed permission from local agencies to be present to be at these checks. Please if you know the federal law or state law that prohibit their presence, please post the link. So, we can all know the truth and the law. Please enlighten us all, I think we all want to know?

Well, since you acknowledge being “someone who didn’t know DUI checkpoints were constructional” it seems there are lots of things you could stand to be enlightened about.

      1) DUI checkpoints have been deemed constitutional by the supreme court. Unfortunately law enforcement uses “DUI checkpoints” as de facto identification stops. While this skirts the intent of law, it meets the letter. As usual, law enforcement agencies conduct themselves in sketchy ways and then wonder why they get no respect.

      2) In maintaining the illusion that they are actual DUI checkpoints they are required to announce them as such to the public. The nominal intention of a DUI checkpoint is to reduce drunken driving and the deterrent value of the announcement probably does more than the actual checkpoint does in that regard. If they didn’t make the announcement a claim that their intent was NOT to reduce drunken driving but just to cite as many people as possible for whatever they can, including lack of papers, would have a good chance of proving out…which would make the activity not a DUI checkpoint and therefore unconstitutional.

      3) The DUI checkpoint is operated by local law enforcement. Any agency that wants to have officers just hanging around would face the same requirements that you or I would if we wanted to just hang around. In other words, that would be at the discretion of the local law enforcement agency. Since an agency that has absolutely nothing to do with DUI enforcement would have nothing to offer but getting in the way there is no reason for such a request to be granted. There is no state law PROHIBITING their presence, but since there is also no reason to grant them such permission there is again a very good chance that a claim that it isn’t really a DUI checkpoint would be upheld, once again making the whole operation unconstitutional.

      Are you enlightened yet?

If ICE agents does show up for the DUI/ driver license check party, the cites are for resistance minded left.

Guess what…an ICE agent interfering at a DUI stop would be the one breaking the law.

Again, if you are going to cite law, get a clue what you are talking about first. If you are totally ignorant about how it is applied, you should just stay quiet rather than proving it.

Were these citations of law supposed to have something to do with a DUI checkpoint?

Your citations refer to federal officers or extradition agents, neither of which are involved in DUI checkpoints which are run by the sheriff’s department. One might think that you are just parroting something that sounds good to you without having any clue what you are talking about. Keep that up and you might be president one day.

They should just wait for the Fair to open and set up a DUI checkpoint there. Or Streets of Lancaster. Or Celebrate American Booze. Or Field of Booze. Booze, booze, booze. Rex loves to claim he has a Christian city then sells booze, booze, and more booze. You won’t see more drunks in one place than at the Fairground. No limits. Just keep drinking. Booze, booze, booze!

In the last 15 years, the gop/tea party/trump ‘peoples’ have been more of a threat to this country than all the immigrants and terrorists combined.

And, they are looking to do more harm in the next few years.

Immigrants and terrorists aren’t gonna try to kick 14 million Americans off the ACA. How many Americans will suffer earlier deaths due to a gop so-called health plan?

The good news, as it were, is that 59% of the trump voters will lose Obamacare if it’s repealed. Well deserved poetic justice. Since they didn’t care about anyone but themselves when they voted, they are will be getting their just desserts. Schadenfreude.
