Detectives seeking help in Acton post office break-in

by The AV Times Staff • December 12, 2016

ACTON – Thieves hit a post office in Acton early Monday morning and stole two mail trucks and a master key, authorities said.

The break-in occurred between 1 and 3:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the U.S. Post Office located at 3632 Smith Avenue in Acton, according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

“At the time of the burglary, unknown suspect(s) entered the facility and stole the master key to the Acton community mailboxes and then took two mail trucks,” the news release states.

The two mail trucks were recovered shortly after the burglary, according to a news report by ABC7.

One of the trucks was chased by deputies and crashed in the area of Shannondale Road and Sierra Highway, ABC7 reported.

Soon after the crash, the driver got into a dark Ford Mustang that was also chased by deputies before the pursuit was called off, according to the station, which reported that the second truck was found in the area of Escondido Canyon and Jones Canyon roads.

Detectives are asking the Acton community to report all suspicious activity at the community mailboxes to the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station by calling 661-272-2400.

Anyone with information on the identity or location of the burglar(s) is encouraged to contact Detective Hall at 661-272-2456.

This has “inside job” written all over it. This took some planning and some “knowledge” in order to carry it out the way they did. If I were the detectives I’d be interviewing a few postal employees of their whereabouts.

I reported two men in a pick up truck seemingly accessing gang mailboxes on Angeles Forest Highway several months ago. I obtained the license plate number of the truck and called the Postal service and filed a report. Unknown if the truck/men were related or had legitimate business in multiple mailboxes but they were NOT putting mail in the boxes and looking around suspiciously as concerned I was watching them. They had a key to the gang mailbox.

I never heard back from the Sheriff’s or Postal Department.

Are “gang mailboxes” identified by their tattoos, or the way they dress?

I had no idea a mail truck was faster than the deputy’s cruiser lol if the deputies couldn’t catch them in the mail truck they deserve to get away

      Simplified article:
Two mail trucks taken. During chase one crashed. The other was found shortly after. One set of perps got away in a different car when chase was called off (probably for safety)
