LANCASTER – Detectives are continuing their investigation into Sport Club AV, a Lancaster fitness center that shut down after its members were allegedly overcharged.

“Detectives are currently investigating a possible `theft by false pretenses’ involving approximately 600 fitness club members,” sheriff’s Deputy Miguel Ruiz said in a press release issued Friday.

Ruiz said investigators suspect that club members were “electronically over-charged” for their September 2016 dues, which were “not previously disclosed to the members.”

The club closed shortly after the dues were collected, sheriff’s officials said.

Detectives want to hear from potential victims over the next 10 days, and are asking potential victims to contact Detective Maloney at 661-940-3860, or Detective Keesee at 661-940-3898, by Dec. 12.

“We ask that victims gather membership contracts and any bank statements or receipts documenting your membership dues,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz also noted that some people may be upset with the business, and warned them to “refrain from any unlawful activities such as vandalism, assaulting or stalking any employees or owners associated with this incident.”

“We have also discovered several social media postings of the owner’s personal information and home address (that have) proven to be inaccurate and ask that persons do not act unlawfully to contact the owners,” Ruiz said.
