LANCASTER – A 27-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning at a Halloween party in Lancaster, authorities said.
Jerry Lavell Penn Jr. of Los Angeles was pronounced dead at 2:21 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
A witness told deputies that Penn had been attending a Halloween party in the 45000 block of Trevor Avenue when he was shot, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Penn’s sister was driving him to the hospital when she crashed her car into a curb near Andale Avenue and Avenue H-14, and the vehicle became disabled, Winter said.
Responding deputies found Penn lying next to the car in the 45300 block of Andale Avenue, and he was treated by paramedics and then pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s news release.
“It is unknown if the incident is gang related. At this time, there is no suspect(s) description,” the sheriff’s news release states.
