PALMDALE – A 34-year-old man who got into a fist fight during a street basketball game in Palmdale Saturday night died of his injuries, and two men were detained in connection with his beating death, authorities said.

Michael Orlando Grigsby of Palmdale was pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Monday morning.

His death was the result of an argument among a group of men gathered for a basketball game that escalated into a physical confrontation, sheriff’s officials said.

The argument escalated to a physical confrontation between the victim and at least one other male,” according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“The injured victim was able to stagger a few houses away before he collapsed. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died from blunt force trauma,” the news release states.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene around 7:53 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

“Two possible male suspects have been detained in connection to the beating death, however no arrests have been made at this time,” the news release states. “The investigation is still active and ongoing.”
