PALMDALE – Two men died early Thursday morning after their vehicle collided with another in Palmdale, authorities said.

The fatal collision happened around 3:32 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, on Avenue M, between 15th and 20th Street East, according to Detective Eduardo Saucedo of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

“The preliminary facts of this investigation indicate a white 2003 Buick Century, driven by a 28-year-old male, was traveling eastbound on Avenue M… for an unknown reason, it drifted into the westbound lanes,” Saucedo stated in a news release. “The vehicle then collided with a red 2013 Chevy Silverado, driven by a 34-year-old male, traveling westbound on Avenue M in the No. 1 lane.”

“A blue Honda Accord… driven by a 49-year-old male collided with the rear portion of the Chevy Silverado,” Saucedo stated in the news release.

The driver and passenger of the Buick Century were pronounced at the scene, according to Saucedo.

Both men were in their 20s, but their names have not yet been released pending next of kin notification, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Thursday afternoon.

The other parties involved in the collision were medically evaluated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.

The Chevy Silverado’s driver sustained a broken arm and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the news release.

The Honda’s driver sustained minor cuts and bruises but was not transported to the hospital, the news release states.

Avenue M, between 15th Street East and 20th Street East, was closed until approximately 10 a.m. Thursday while the incident was being investigated. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this traffic collision is encouraged to call Palmdale Station’s Traffic Department at 661-272-2400.

UPDATED 8.26.16: The deceased driver has been identified as 28-year-old Roland L. Smith Jr. of Lancaster, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Friday morning.

UPDATED 8.27.16: The deceased passenger has been identified as 26-year-old Chijir Erdeneaatar, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

So sad. Roland was my cousin and I am only one year older than he is. I only met him once but he was so full of life and such a happy, bright young man. Also to the servicemen stationed overseas-my cousin is also stationed in Guam right now and it hurts my heart to have to call her and tell her a family member has passed in such a tragic way.

I’m deployed overseas, and I check this page everyday to see if any of my family member’s name will come up. It’s sad to see things like this, and it makes my blood freeze in my veins hoping the names that come up aren’t names I recognize. It’s hard being around the world and trying to take care of your family. My condolences to the family and rest in paradise gentlemen.

Praying for you and your family. I’ve been there in your shoes, and it’s sad that we’re more worried for those back home than for our guys and gals on the front lines. Make it home safe.

We, too, are stationed overseas. I follow this page to keep up with what’s going on at home. My stomach always knots up reading these types of stories. I pray that the names of my family and friends are never featured in these accidents and violent crimes.
My deepest condolences to the family’s of these two young men. There are literally people all over the world praying for you.

I thought I was the only one. I’m also overseas and look at this page for similar reasons. Unfortunately I knew one of the victims. It’s good to know I’m not alone though.
