PALMDALE — Numerous parked vehicles in West Palmdale were targeted by unknown vandals this week, authorities said.

The crimes happened between 11 p.m. Sunday, April 10, and 7 a.m. Monday, April 11, according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

“The vandalisms occurred [from] 30th Street West to 60th Street West and Avenue M to Rancho Vista Boulevard,” the news release states. “The rear windows and/or driver’s side mirrors were struck with a baseball bat or similar object.”

Many of the victims filed reports with the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, but an investigation uncovered numerous other vehicles that had been vandalized and not reported, officials said.

Detectives are now seeking potential victims who have not yet reported the vandalism.

“Palmdale residents who had their vehicle’s rear window or driver’s side mirror vandalized between April 10 and April 11, and have not yet reported the incident, please call the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station at 661-272-2400 to file a report,” the news release states.

This is typically something that is done by perpetrators who are either not from the area and think there is a minimal risk of being caught — OR — people who do live here but are planning on moving very soon to avoid getting caught. I suspect the latter. As the economy keeps picking up and more neighborhoods are improving, the people being ousted are getting more desperate and acting out more. You see things like this all of the time in large cities where gentrification is taking place. It’s basically a last-ditch effort to lash out at the area you are being forced out of.

Unfortunately, we are one of the families that was affected by this. I really hope whoever has done this is caught….where is the respect for other people’s personal property?? I am DISGUSTED by all of this…..someone knows who did this! Come forward!

The 1%??? NOBODY in the Antelope Valley is a part of the so-called “1%”.

Top 1% by income starts at about 450K annual household income. There is a particularly snotty fireman who posts here claiming twenty years of service, so with the overtime he soaks us for while hanging out at the fire station he probably makes well over half that, and he claims his wife is a dentist so she probably makes her half as well.

If someone wants to go looking for the one percent with mayhem in mind that might be a good place to start.

Re: the dentist and fireman being in the “1% echelon”. One thing you may have overlooked, Tim, is that dentists — like other medical professionals — must carry heavy med-mal liability insurance, professional live insurance (especially if they own the business) and pay state licensing fees, which can be exuberant. He or she must also pay a full-time staff of usually two or more assistants, a book-keeper and a receptionist. That, alone, probably eats into their profit margin considerably. You can’t fault a dentist for earning the income that they do. I believe if they are good at their profession, then whatever they make in income is well-deserved. The person you are talking about probably makes a little over $100k when all is said and done.

I don’t fault anyone for the income they make.

Fireman income is readily accessed on line. On the dentist all I have to go on is old observations from my salesman days, but several years ago dentists who owned their own business that I encountered were making well over 100K in personal income, and I find it unlikely that they have fallen on much harder times.

But, in any event, Shane seems to be trying to roll back his “everyone but me and mine is sewer sludge” position, so I withdraw my animosity.

What I really found surprising when I was fact checking before making that comment is that the cutoff for the top 1% by annual income is only 450K.

Much of what you said is true. My wife has quite a bit of overhead and employees but she is also a partner in a practice so she does fine.

I also have a side business. My FD job has me working 10-12 days a month, more with overtime and I like to stay busy. I’ve had the side business with employees in AV and Santa Clarita.

You are correct, however, that we get hit with taxes and all kinds of expenses running businesses. We would make probably 30-35% more if/when we move out of state with tax breaks…but their fire departments don’t pay as much. I’ll retire and take my pension and business to another state where we own a home already. Sadly, it will probably leave about 20 people without a job.

California will likely never be a “retirement haven,” that’s for sure. No fault in saying so. Retired people (even me) aren’t usually a net add to the economy though, so having “retirement haven” on the resume wouldn’t be much of a plus.

By the way, Shane, if you are really concerned about them…when I had had enough of my last business I gave it to my employees and left. There are options other than “leaving 20 people without a job.”

I don’t mean to be contentious Shane, but I find people who rely on California public employee wages and a California retirement who then complain about California taxes, to be somewhat hypocritical. It’s like they are saying, “keep paying your high taxes to support my job, but then when I retire and I have to pay taxes too, I’m leaving!” …I’m not mad at you, it’s not personal, I just find baffling enough to be slightly irritating.

I agree. It’s funny how hypocrites are never aware of their own hypocrisy.

I guess it goes with the territory.

        • Shane Falco says

          April 19, 2016 at 7:53 pm

Well…I think I said we pay our share. It would be easy to just live on my income alone, or max out the taxpayers paid for overtime. Instead, I run a business that pays twice what I make with the FD that also employs quite a few people.

I’ve paid for school bond measures and for public schools through my taxes…that neither myself not my kids have ever been in. That’s life. I’m not going to berate a public school teacher for retiring elsewhere, this state seems intent on catering to low and non-income legal/illegal residents instead of people paying taxes.

Many businesses are leaving or have left California, many retirees have done the same.

          • Tim Scott says

            April 19, 2016 at 8:22 pm

Doesn’t cater to people who pay taxes, and yet it generates sufficient tax revenues to pay you, and apparently your entire leeching generation of Falco’s, following in the wake of your leeching dad.

Don’t let the door hit you in the butt on your way out, since you are such an ingrate. Don’t wait. Sod off tomorrow.

And don’t worry about your employees. The MARKET creates their jobs, not you. Some other business, hopefully run by someone who doesn’t despise his customer base, will take your place.

You must be brainwashed by the Demoncrats. 1% is not the problem, it is the illegal aliens. Poor people do not create jobs, it is the 1%ner. 1%ners do not live in the Antelope Valley. So don’t believe everything you hear and see from the left wing media. They do not report news they create bad news to stir up more bad news.

That’s where reading comprehension comes in handy. I said your buddies, not you. You’re always sticking up for the criminal element. You know, they had to pour bleach down that girls throat and dump her in a trash can because of oppression and shyte.

Reading comprehension is just fine, thanks. Vandalism is not my style, so, no, I am not “buddies” with vandals.

As to what I am “always” doing, you are clearly short of knowledge in the field. If you look closely you will find that I am far more likely to be bashing arrogant prigs than sticking up for criminals. Funny how you find that offensive…or maybe just revealing.
