Mortuary attendant accused of stealing from deceased man’s home

by The AV Times Staff • March 24, 2016

LANCASTER – A 41-year-old mortuary attendant was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing a vehicle and a gun from the home of a deceased man in Lancaster, authorities said.

The theft happened after an elderly man passed away at his Lancaster home on March 5, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“As a result of the death, a mortuary attendant, Fernando Moguel of Los Angeles, responded to the location and took custody of the deceased. Within 48 hours, the vehicle belonging to the deceased, along with a firearm, was stolen from his residence,” the sheriff’s news release states.

A follow-up investigation revealed the car’s title was transferred into Moguel’s name.

Detectives then served a search warrant at Moguel’s residence and recovered the car and the gun, sheriff’s officials said.

Moguel was arrested Wednesday, March 23, on suspicion of grand theft vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm. He was booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, and he’s being held in lieu of $35,000 bail, according to LASD inmate records.

A court date for Moguel has not been set.

If you live in Lancaster, you are safe from being a victim of a crime by dead terrorists, thanks to the well thought out policy of Rex and his crack council. I heard they are coming up with some ways to stop the live people from committing crimes against us. The bird sounds didn’t seem to work and neither has the Eye in the Sky. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

That is just daft. Steal a car and then transfer the title. Wouldn’t it be quicker to just steal a police car and drive it through the door of the cop shop?
