I feel your pain, ha ha! Good entertainment especially country is hard to find, in the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles area it’s extinct, I have traveled to many venues desperately seeking good country. I think the solution is in the neighboring valley in a place called Bakersfield. Back in the day Bakersfield spawned some awesome country talent, (Buck Owens and The Buckaroos and Merle Haggard and the Strangers are the most successful artists of the original Bakersfield sound era. Other major Bakersfield country artists include Wynn Stewart, Jean Shepard, Tommy Collins, Susan Raye, Dennis Payne and Freddie Hart.)
So what does this Bakersfield B.S. have to do with the AV Fair? The answer is, reach over to the neighboring valley, the talent is still there, bring young talent in and bring in talent that won’t cost an arm and a leg such as Marty Stewart and Jim Lauderdale who is at Papy and Harriet’s in Pioneer Town, April 23rd. tickets $15.00, really!
Tap the talent, build the talent you’ll soo have a world class festival.
Good Luck,
Tom

It is always the same old people every year. I have to agree with the comment about the people going from the grandstands to the floor. We paid the highest price two years to go see a band on floor seating and it will filled with everyone from the grandstands and other pricing areas. The security guards said “theres too many people to do anything about it”. Hey AV Fair….why don’t you step up your game and hire people who give a F*&^ and will do everything to NOT let this happen. I have never eve heard of “Cam” and Don Felder never was a front man for the Eagles so who really cares about that? Foreigner?? Haven’t they been here for the past 8 years?? I will NOT spend one penny to watch any of these concerts. Boring….boring…boring!!!

Be thankful they didn’t bring back the Beach Boys, Styx, and Lynyrd Skynyrd for the fifteenth time.

I’m in no way on the side of the fair but you have too understand at the most only ten percent of the people at the concerts pay for the show, everyone in the grandstands are watching for free and half the people down by the stage are given those tickets from the companies that sponsor the shows, so the fair is forced too find groups that will perform for peanuts, La County Fair runs the same way War, and Earth Wind and Fire play their every year for as long as I can remember. Look at Palmdales summer concerts all artists who once were on top who can’t let go of the lifestyle. Real shows are played in La and not that many people in the AV are willing to pay the price of those shows, regardless if they sing her in the AV.
Music Lover Willing to Pay for Good Music says
Right on Tom! If the Antelope Valley wants top entertainment, it has to be willing to pay for it. Luke Bryan’s artist fee runs $250-400K, Toby Keith $300-500K, which doesn’t include sound, lighting or any other costs associated with producing a show. When folks in the AV are willing to consistently sell out shows with ticket prices of $75 or more, you’ll see bigger acts.
Check out the artist fees for various entertainers (this list is two years old, so add $$ to it): http://priceonomics.com/how-much-does-it-cost-to-book-your-favorite-band/

Time to bring some new blood into the fair board. Same ol’ same ol’ people, same ol’ same ol’ results. Go outside the Circle of Rex and you’ll find s lot of creative, thoughtful people with wider perspectives. Good luck with that, though. He’s not very good at giving up control.
Jack-a-lope says
Seriously Foreigner! WTH How about Luke Bryan, Toby Keith and Egyptian Lover or Bobby Jimmy & The Critters.People want variety not the same ol same ol. Step up your game ! Hello Fair Board? Timex Social Club is a good choice too.

I know, right? How about bringing in some newer, washed up talent. There are plenty of hair bands from the 80’s who would be glad to play the fair. Def Leppard anyone? There are plenty of modern bands in the folk scene that would probably play the fair too. How about Trampled by Turtles or The Devil Makes 3, that would be awesome.
