Littlerock woman dies after three-vehicle crash

by The AV Times Staff • December 29, 2015

PEARBLOSSOM – A 21-year-old Lancaster man suffered major injuries and a 21-year-old Littlerock woman was killed in a three-vehicle collision Monday night in the Pearblossom area, authorities said.

It happened around 9:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, on Fort Tejon Road near Butterfield Stage Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The Littlerock woman – identified by coroner’s officials as Samantha Vidana – was driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra westbound on Fort Tejon Road at an unknown speed, while Lancaster resident Scott Gottlieb was driving a 2005 Mercury Sable eastbound on Fort Tejon Road at 65 miles per hour, according to the CHP report.

For unknown reasons, Vidana’s Sentra crossed into the eastbound lane of Fort Tejon Road and collided with Gottlieb’s Sable, according to the CHP report.

“[The Nissan Sentra] came to rest facing in a southerly direction, blocking the eastbound lane of Fort Tejon Road,” the CHP report states.

Keith Caval Brignac, 54, of Pearblossom, was driving a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica eastbound on Fort Tejon Road at 60 mph, and he “failed to observe the prior collision,” according to the CHP report.

The Chrysler Pacifica struck the passenger side of the Sentra, the CHP report states. Vidana was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brignac, who sustained minor injuries in the crash, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the CHP report.

Gottlieb suffered major injuries and was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital.

“suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol” – how is this a misdemeanor charge? Can someone explain?

Generally, DUI is a misdemeanor unless you are a repeat offender. I think the law specifies number of prior offenses in specific periods of time. There’s also some jumping up to felony based on connecting the DUI to a reckless driving charge. The DUI law is really complicated on when it is a misdemeanor and when it is a felony.

It is interesting that he is probably not at fault, but I thought the law has a stipulation that basically says the intoxicated person is at fault. I’m sure there’s a fair amount of gray area in the law and how it can be enforced.

Also, don’t forget DUI statistics are greatly exaggerated to pump up arrest stats and create another heart-string tugging, politically safe issue that can be used to wage a revenue driven war against the populace.

How horrifying to be going through something like this. At any time but especially during the holidays! Our sincerest condolences to every one but especially Samanthas family. Sammy was my son Kailebs best friend in elementary school. Our hearts are broken! We will help with some funds for the funeral service.

Sad: So very sad so young a mom lost.
All those who can not heal the sick, raise the dead. and walk on water sometimes make small mistakes. If it were just timed a little different the outcome could not have been such a sad one. Life turns without notice or vision suddenly sometimes.
The parents will never get over it and only learn to live with it. Just the grieving takes about 2 years. Lives changed forever. Blessings to all. My God be with you and protect all from now on.
From the Grandfather of the other driver.

It’s sad that the one driver was a possible dui. How many people driving around at night have been drinking? I fear I’d be disgusted by the answer. Sorry to the family and friends.

I am so sorry. RIP sweet girl. Condolences to her family. I hope the others heal.

This same thing happened a week today to my grandchildren’s mother, on Pearblossom.

When are they going to reduce the speed limits up here?

For what? Im sure the speed limit up where this accident occurred was not 65mph but thats how fast a couple were going. All lowering it will do is help give more speeding tickets. It wont help reduce accidents because people will still go the speed they want. Sorry for ur loss and RIP to all the people who’ve passed.

This accident, and the one on Pearblossom last week, had nothing to do with the speed limit and everything to do with a driver crossing over into oncoming traffic. Both are horrible accidents and I send my condolences to those that lost a loved one and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
