Track work will affect Antelope Valley Line Sunday service

by The AV Times Staff • December 4, 2015

MetrolinkBeginning Sunday, Dec. 13, and continuing for consecutive Sundays through Jan. 17, Metrolink will be completing maintenance work along the Antelope Valley Line between the Sylmar/San Fernando and Newhall stations.

Because of this work, Metrolink will provide bus service between the Sylmar/San Fernando and Newhall stations on Sundays Dec. 13 through Jan. 17. Regular Metrolink train service will run on the rest of the line.

There will be train service between Lancaster and Newhall, and Sylmar/San Fernando and Los Angeles. The full schedule will operate, however passengers can expect delays of up to 60 minutes.

The work will take place in a tunnel south of Newhall. Many of the timber ties inside the tunnel are in need of repair, while the topography of the tunnel requires pumps to continually remove water from the area.

Work to be conducted includes replacing up to 1,000 aging ties, the cleaning of ballast and other various projects to improve drainage.

The work is being implemented to prevent a major weather-related disruption along the Antelope Valley Line in anticipation of the heavy rains this winter.

For more information regarding the service, go to metrolinktrains.com/AVTrackWork.

The “authorities” have been doing alot, it seems, to prepare for what might be a pretty intense rainy season. I hope they are right even though that would like mean that there will be some of us that may suffer from storm related damage. However, obviously, we need the Water.
