Auto theft advisory for Honda owners

by The AV Times Staff • December 3, 2015

LOS ANGELES – Early model Honda Accords and Civics are the vehicles most likely to be stolen in Los Angeles County, warns the Sheriff’s Taskforce for Regional Auto theft Prevention (TRAP).

“The 1990s Honda Accords and Civics have consistently ranked number one as the most stolen vehicle in Los Angeles County, throughout the state of California, and the nation. This ranking is due in part to the lack of built in anti-theft technology in these older model vehicles versus new vehicles,” TRAP officials said in an advisory to Honda owners.

TRAP is informing Honda owners of measures they can take to deter theft:

  • Consider installing an anti-theft device such as an alarm system or GPS tracking device.
  • Use a steering wheel lock or other owner applied anti-theft device.
  • If feasible, keep your vehicle in your driveway or garage to deter a possible theft.
  • Place anti-theft stickers on the windows.
  • If your Honda is stolen, notify law enforcement immediately to report it.

This is an old story. Use a club. Older model Toyota’s and Honda’s are targets.

My 2001 Civic was stolen last Dec. from the Airport Shuttle lot on Ave S in Palmdale last Dec. I did not realize that the parking lot had NO SECURITY ftom 1000PM to 400 AM..It was a very easy target. Turned our more than 20 Hondas and Toyotas were stolen that week in the Av. Thanks to thr AV SHERIFF’S DEPT. I got my Honda back. Cost $ 140.00 to repair damage but I was very lucky. Since then I have used a new improved club. Never without it.TRUST me, you need it! It is important you disable your car and ake it impossible to drive or, it is gone!

Its any early car 90’s..2000 and up…doesn’t matter. Easy to get into and parts in demand. Someone tried to steal my 2001 Honda Civic outside the AV hospital ER in the middle of the night a couple months back. And it has an alarm which didn’t deter them. And the car is just stock…nothing flashy. If I hadn’t have walked out by chance at the right time and scared them off my car would be another statistic and I would have had a long walk home. They should do stings and catch these thugs. They aren’t the ghetto crackheads you expect. You wouldn’t even think they were criminals…until you see them trying to get into your car.

Who can tell? The body style changed in 1998 and 2002, so if that is a 2001 it still represents the “1990s models.”
