Palmdale deputy shot, injured on camping trip

by The AV Times Staff • October 18, 2015

An off-duty deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Palmdale Station was unintentionally shot and injured by another off-duty deputy while both were on a camping trip in Kern County, authorities said.

The incident happened during the morning of Sunday, Oct. 18, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“The deputies were camping in a remote area of Kern County when one deputy unintentionally discharged his non-Department issued off-duty weapon, striking another deputy in the leg,” the sheriff’s news release states. “The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.”

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau and Homicide Bureau, were notified and responded to conduct an investigation, sheriff’s officials said.

“The investigation into the complete circumstances of this incident is being handled by the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, as it is in their jurisdiction,” the L.A. sheriff’s news release states.

Officials have not released the names of the deputies involved. Both off-duty deputies were from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Palmdale Station.

No further information was immediately available Sunday afternoon.

Accidents happen. No body would say anything if u needed help out there and they had a gun. At least not seriously injured

Does that mean that the “OFF-DUTY” officer that discharged his firearm “ACCIDENTLY” is innocent until proven guilty? Was alcohol involved? Was he under the influence of methamphetamine? We probably will never know. Maybe he just needs a little more practice shooting his “NON-ISSUED” “OFF-DUTY” weapon?
