QUARTZ HILL – Ana Penaloza, an educator from the Westside Union School District (WUSD) at Del Sur, was recognized recently during the Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year luncheon. Penaloza was selected as a top educator from the pool of more than 70 school districts.

Penaloza was nominated based on her accomplishments and achievements at Del Sur during the 2014-2015 school year. During the summer, Penaloza participated in a variety of interviews that placed her as a top educator.

“We are proud of Mrs. Penaloza’s accomplishments and thrilled to have her represent our district,” said Westside Union School District Superintendent Regina Rossall. “Her work exemplifies the excellence in teaching and educational leadership that we strive for.”

Each year WUSD Board Trustees take great strides in acknowledging the success of one professional to be named WUSD teacher of the year. Penaloza was the 2014 WUSD Teacher of the Year recipient, which led to her appointment for the Los Angeles County award.

Penaloza dedicated her extra time to special education by actively participating as a professional learning community facilitator. Her role as a facilitator enhanced the work of other teachers that educate students enrolled in special education. Additionally, she was an intern coach for first year special education teachers.

“WUSD is proud of Ana and all our fellow faculty and staff members; they work hard every day to provide an excellent source of education for the students that reside in Antelope Valley,” said Rossall.
