LANCASTER – A man was critically wounded in a shooting outside a Lancaster liquor store Sunday night, authorities said.

The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at Kingtree Avenue and Avenue I, according to Lt. Derrick Alfred of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station said.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was last reported in surgery, Alfred said.

A crime scene was being preserved early Monday morning while the victim was undergoing treatment.

Friends of the victim said he was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in front of Cliff’s Liquor, but sheriff’s officials would not confirm this information Monday.

The suspect vehicle was described Sunday night as a late model, black Dodge Challenger, according to a Lancaster Sheriff’s Station crime broadcast. However, this information could not be confirmed by sheriff’s officials on Monday.

No further information was immediately available.

Anyone with information on this shooting is encouraged to contact Daniel Welle of the Operation Safe Streets gang unit at 661-948-8466.

Editor’s note: Much of this information is still preliminary. We will revise/update this story with more information if it becomes available.

Alcohol fuels violence like this, and these liquor stores sell that fuel. Convienetly placed in higher crime areas. Getting drunk is the more popular option to criminals. If medical Marijuana had anything to do with this.. it wouldn’t of even happened. Marijuana saves lives while anything really revolving around alcohol abuse, destroys lives every second.

Liquor stores do not attract violent criminals, only medical cannabis shops do that. This is a simple misunderstanding! The 50 liquor markets we have on the east side are the least of our problems! Even if there are two just a jump from Antelope high school. This incident occurred at a dispensary outside of the eye in the sky’s camera range. Probably Palmdale, they’re evil, right?

Weed shops have nothing to do with gun violence . cancer patients getting medicine has nothing to do with gang violence . what we need to do is take everyone’s guns which is the common denominator in deaths .

I’m thinking Native had a lil sarcasm going on in his post. But, on another note Nestor, you have a great user name!

Screw that, open carry. Criminals will think twice knowing most are packing.

Yeah. Pass. The level of arrogant idiocy routinely displayed by unarmed people does not need to be amplified by supplying them with cold steel courage. I foresee disputes over parking spaces painting lots with blood on a routine basis in that future.

And criminals won’t care anyway would be my guess. The winner of a fight is almost always whoever is least constrained about inflicting harm, and that’s most likely a comparison that is going to tip to the criminal.

Tim. Open carry to California would probably mean a form of registered open carry. I doubt any law abiding citizen with their name attached to the rifling would be willing to act in such a manner. As for the mental stability aspect, they have background checks for a reason.

Yes, I’m fully aware that the recent carnage in Roanoke was caused (probably, until found a truth) by failure to find mental distress and therefore prevent said shooting.

The fact remains that you cannot limit a person’s right to defend themselves against violence. This is a world where people actually need to defend themselves. You should know this, you served this country, defending the freedoms granted by the constitution.

If you are so against police violence, as well as the rest of this great country possessing the right that you fought for, do you not see yourself as an agent of hypocrisy? When should i protect myself? When the law can’t be there, can I pull a piece then?

I just see a lot of negatives. Since you mentioned the cops, let’s be realistic there. Cops would be shooting people right left and down the middle.

As to being able to trace the registered gun, I’m not as comfortable as you that this is a deterrent. If there is a good chance the other side of the dispute over the parking space has a gun, then the idea that killing them is “required” surfaces early and often. Instead of two hot heads calling each other names you get one of them claiming self defense and the other one shot.

But I’m game. As I said, the fight almost always goes to whoever is most willing to do harm, no matter who has what arms, so it makes very little difference to me.

Hey, hey, Nestor, the gun manufactors gotta make money. Every time there’s a massacre, gun sales skyrocket.

        Ya don’t suppose that…………

Oh, no. They wouldn’t be behind something so dastardly. Anyway, they got the NRA to do their advertising for them. I don’t recall seeing much advertising for guns compared to ads for everything else in this country from Viagra and incontinence meds to adult diapers and some kind of pads with ‘wings’ and other ‘stuff’ I’d rather not come across on my teevee machine.

What a deal. Free advertising by the NRA/GOP/fox ‘news’ and its viewers and the gun manufacturers make a handsome profit to buy politicians with. What a perfect set up.

        Nestor Morales.

Went to Piute with a Nestor Morales. Wonder if that was you? Circa 2000.

If so, I can truly say that your view on violence and what it solves, had certainly changed. For the better, thank God.

If you couldn’t tell, the statement I made was pure sarcasm. I was merely paying homage to the mayor’s failed ideology of security within his dear Christian community. Of course liquor stores are the problem. Such establishments give youth a misguided sense of what is right and wrong. Something prevalent in the society that we grew up in. Behavior such as this is only setting an example that it is right to act violent against something that you simply don’t like.

What do cops fear the most???
        Other people with guns.
What happens to those other people with a gun when confronted by cops???
