PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale is accepting applications for the Palmdale Partners Academy, a free eight-week program designed to give citizens a first-hand look at city operations and services.

The 2015 session of the Palmdale Partners Academy begins Tuesday, Sept. 29, and continues on consecutive Tuesday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. through Nov. 17.

Residents may register online at http://www.cityofpalmdale.org/Residents/Neighborhood-Services/Partners-Academy, or by contacting Trish Jones at 661-267-5473 or tjones@cityofpalmdale.org.

Registration ends Sunday, Sept. 27.

“The Academy will help citizens gain a better understanding of local government, the community, the resources and how to get things done,” said Palmdale’s Community Programs Supervisor Trish Jones.

Some notable graduates of the Academy include former Assemblyman Steve Fox, Palmdale Planning Commissioners Patricia Shaw and Linda Hughes, and Palmdale Water District Board Members Kathy Mac Laren and Robert Alvarado.

During the academy sessions, participants will interact with city staff and learn the challenges facing municipal governments as well as gain insight into the city’s future goals and objectives.

“If you’ve ever wondered who decides what businesses come to town, or where does the funding come from to take care of the city, or how can I present an idea to the City Council, then the Academy is for you,” Jones said.

The Buffalo Cafe at 47th and S has excellent food and the bar seems nice (I don’t drink so can’t comment on their drink prices).

I know. I’ve eaten there a couple time and the food is pretty darn good even the side dishes like corn on the cob and coleslaw are excellent.

Their baby ribs are some of the best.

I’m surprised it isn’t packed like some lesser quality places and their prices are good too.

I asked the server about putting one on the west side. They use this place as a training restaurant and they’re building one in Dubai of all places.

I just think thete neds to be a better selection over on the east side. I use to go to the “cactus bar” and they shutt it down. We also had el Dorado, on Palmdale Blv. , the only latin dance club close by, and got shut down. Now, we have to go al the way to Lancaster for clubs. Why should we have to go to Lancaster and make the Rex Peris look good?

Businesses that close because they are run by poor business people is not being shut down. Shut down means they are doing something illegal. If Cactus Bar and El Dorado were the kind of places you enjoyed, then you fill find plenty of similar places in Lancaster. The Trap, Britisher, etc.

You would be better off taking some business and economics courses. It will explain why businesses go where they go. I’ve read some posts here of people whining about all the new businesses opening in Palmdale at 10th West and Rancho Vista and that they should open elsewhere like the BLVD. do you think for a minute if any of these new businesses thought the BLVD was viable they wouldn’t be there? The BLVD is a business graveyard.

Biz, i think i am going to put this to the test,, by applying for a liquor license. Let’s see how much resistance i get from the city of Palmdale.

If you want to make real money in liquor, head to Lancaster. It’s more liquor centric. Every event you go to has it. You can open up some place on Ave. I that’s low rent with a steady flow of customers coming from the BLVD, the train station, and the park.
