PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s popular Thursday Night on the Square (TNOTS) event will be held this Thursday, July 30, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Poncitlán Square (9th St. East between Ave. Q-9 & Ave. Q-10).

Families can enjoy live R&B music from Tesserae, food from local vendors, free City activities for kids and an open-air market featuring specialty items.

“This week’s theme is ‘Capes & Crusaders,’” said Recreation Supervisor Annie Pagliaro. “Kids can make a super power photo frame, a flashlight signal with a superhero emblem, and create and wear a superhero mask. All superhero kids should suit up in their favorite gear because this night needs saving!”

On display will be LASD's mobile command center and specialized vehicles and motorcycles.

Palmdale’s Neighborhood Services Department will also kick off its annual National Night Out at TNOTS with a variety of crime prevention and safety-related activities. On display will be the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s mobile command center and specialized vehicles and motorcycles.

Other agencies participating will be the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Animal Care and Control and the Red Cross.

In celebration of National Night Out 2015, residents in Palmdale neighborhoods are asked to participate by turning on their outside lights and spending evenings outside with neighbors throughout the month of August. Many neighborhoods will be hosting special events such as block parties, cookouts and forming Neighborhood Watch groups with the city’s crime prevention staff and Sheriff’s deputies.

National Night Out is a nationwide crime and drug prevention awareness campaign sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch designed to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts. It strengthens neighborhood spirit and law enforcement-community partnerships and sends a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting crime.

Visitors to TNOTS may also see ARTown FUSION, a special artist showcase on display at Legacy Commons for Active Seniors. ARTown FUSION will feature the work of local artists of all ages and abilities.

Over at the AERO Institute, NASA will present International Space Station – Off the Earth, For the Earth – a one year Crew Mission Twins study.

In addition to the music and activities, one lucky person will get caught “green-handed” – disposing of recyclable and non-recyclable waste in the proper container – and will win a backpack made of recycled materials, courtesy of Waste Management, which will be filled with DryTown passes, treats and Palmdale Amphitheater Summer Concert Series tickets. Last week’s “green-handed” winner was Gavin Cesena.
