PALMDALE – An oil spill from a big rig that overturned and caught fire early Thursday morning shut down all northbound lanes of the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in the Palmdale area for about eight hours.
The crash occurred about 3:45 a.m. Thursday, July 9, on the 14 Freeway just north of Mountain Springs Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Manuel DeJesus Aguilar of Garden Grove was driving a 2010 Freightliner northbound on SR-14 when he lost control of the truck for unknown reasons, the CHP report states.
The big rig crashed into a guardrail then overturned and caught fire, according to the CHP.
Aguilar was transported to Palmdale Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, the CHP report states.
The resulting oil spill covered the northbound lanes, making driving conditions hazardous, according to the CHP.
The cleanup was completed and all lanes reopened about noon.
