PALMDALE – Dozens of local nonprofit organizations will begin selling fireworks at various locations throughout Palmdale starting Sunday, June 28, city officials announced.
Fireworks will be sold during the following dates and times:
Sunday, June 28 – Noon to 10 pm
Monday, June 29 through Saturday, July 4 – 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday, July 5 – 10 a.m. to noon
The Palmdale City Council at its June 3 meeting approved issuing permits for several organizations (see list below) to sell fireworks. Only nonprofit organizations that have headquarters in Palmdale or have more than 50 percent of their membership residing in Palmdale and have a minimum of 20 members are eligible to apply for fireworks booths. Only one booth is allowed per organization.
Organizations’ booths must pass an inspection by the Los Angeles County Fire Department before the City’s Code Enforcement Division will issue the fireworks permit. Fireworks may be purchased by those who are age 18 or older in the city of Palmdale. Proof of age may be requested for purchase.
The city of Palmdale is the only municipality in the Antelope Valley in which “Safe and Sane” fireworks may be legally sold and discharged on private property. However, the housing community Anaverde, all areas south of the California Aqueduct, and locations in the Rancho Vista area are “no fireworks zones” and may not use any fireworks at all since they are in high risk fire areas.
The “no fireworks zone” is generally described as the area within the City of Palmdale which lies along the following lines: beginning at the intersection of Rancho Vista Boulevard and 30th Street West, areas south and west of Rancho Vista Boulevard, north to Avenue N-8; south and west of Avenue N-8 from Rancho Vista Boulevard to 55th Street West; west of 55th Street West; and south from 55th Street West to 60th Street West (Godde Hill Road). View the “No Fireworks Zone” maps here and here.
“We’ve developed an interactive map on our Web site, www.cityofpalmdale.org, that allows residents to enter their address so they can see if they live in a ‘no fireworks zone’ area where ‘Safe and Sane’ fireworks are not allowed,” said Palmdale’s Communications Manager John Mlynar. Access the interactive map here.
Residents may also contact Palmdale’s Neighborhood Services Department at 661-267-5181 or 661-267-5170 for assistance on no fireworks zones.
The City of Palmdale is urging residents to not use illegal fireworks, and administrative fines starting at $2,500 will be in effect. Educational flyers are being distributed with each “Safe and Sane” fireworks purchase. For more information, call 661-267-5181.

Total iresponsavilidad en lugar donde hay tanta sequia devian ya de proibir esta actividad porque es peligrosa
Mike says
It’s totally irresponsible to allow fireworks during a drought so severe, they had to place restrictions on water. Now my lawn is totally dead and any sparks would cause a fire. Same with the rest of my neighborhood. I’ll have to stay home for the 4th so I can keep an eye out for fires. Once again, totally irresponsible!
jim says
I can’t believe they are doing this again. I keep the list of organizations that sell fire works and have nothing to do with them. No donations, no support, nothing.
Tim Scott says
Palmdale charities and organizations have been raising funds this way since before I was born, and I assume they will still be doing so long after I’m gone. The fireworks sold in the stands are very easy to use safely, compared to the illegal fireworks that would no doubt take their place if they weren’t available, so I don’t see the big crisis myself, but I applaud you for taking a stand for your beliefs.
Flame Out says
What a coincidence. I keep a list too. It’s a list of all the fires and maimed children Rex claims are caused by these Charities selling fireworks. Pretty empty page.
valleygirl says
The entire Antelope Valley needs to be firework free. In this drought, with the extreme fire danger, selling them is irresponsible. There are other opportunities for these service organizations to make money. Shame on Palmdale and Rosamond.
Flame Out says
They should ban safe and sane fireworks because they can cause fires and we are in a drought.
They should ban BBQ and gas grills because they can cause fires and we are in a drought.
They should ban cigarette smoking because they can cause fires and we are in a drought.
They should ban any outdoor electrical appliance because they can cause fires and we are in a drought.
They should ban outdoor fireplaces and firepits because they can cause fires and we are in a drought.
They should ban the use of matches and lighters outdoors because they can cause fires and we are in a drought.
They should ban the use of magnifying glasses outdoors because they can cause fire and we are in a drought.
They should ban outdoor generators because they can cause fires and we are in a drought.
Liz says
Rightly so, Flame Out! Tell us who “They” are. I am readying my buckets of mellowed yellow as I write. We will be ready for the apocalypse. But, just in case, let’s hope They ban hotheads. It’s hot enough already.
Uh yeah says
They should ban “Flame Out” His brain has not been lubricated in years causing the gears to overheat from improper thinking and it could cause a fire and we are in a drought.
Truth says
You fear free thinking.
You feel the need to stifle the opinions of others while promoting your own.
You cannot understand what logic & reason mean, you must be a city council member of Lancaster!
Nah says
Flame out has no logic, he speaks of paranoia, ban water you may drown, ban cars you my get into an accident. These types of things are not free thinking but paranoia.
Well Then says
He may have no logic, but I bet he has a stellar understanding of sarcasm!
Flame Out says
Well Then, you get it. Apparently you are not the Mayor of Lancaster, a Lancaster city council man or woman, a Lancaster commissioner, or one of the King’s paid or blindly loyal bloggers. Would you consider running for office in Lancaster? Please? Pretty please?
Liz says
Not on board with this; never have been. I love my country. Just don’t feel the need to express it in this way. In a desert. In a drought. Maybe, instead of letting my yellow mellow in the toilets, I can start filling some buckets now, out of the goodness of my heart, for my neighbors to extinguish their smoldering patriotic bits in.
lucy says
I figure they listed the names of the groups that benefit from the sale of fireworks to gain some sense of community but there should be another way. We are in a drought and this is illogical. Come on its time to let go.
Apalled says
Took the words right out of my mouth. Incredible simply incredible. I see lots of fires in our future. How dare they warn us of the danger of the drought and be so irresponsible as to sell fireworks this year!
Desiree says
OMG – I know it’s not my age that has me with such old lady thoughts already but my goodness, fireworks in this VERY dry valley? We are in a drought and 80 percent of the homes and lots are dry. Maybe I will be wrong, but I should bet that the fire trucks will be out this year. What are these city officials thinking?
Ernie says
The officials are thinking, For the last two years no fires have been started by Safe and Sane fireworks in the AV. Fires have been started by illegal fireworks not Safe and Sane.
kd says
To all the idiots in palmdale the eastside of course,The fourth of july is on the fourth of JULY not the middle of june. Why are u idiots doing fireworks in June.
Tim Scott says
When in doubt and not getting your way, call people names. That ALWAYS goes well. I might have to run out and get some fireworks to pop off tonight, just for you.
kd says
The comment is not for you so move on.If it doesnt apply to you shut up.
kd says
Must of struck a chord because ur still replying to my comment lol.Dont get ur panties in a bunch hunty
Cosmo says
There’s no “doubt. It’s not a case of “getting her way” either. And the fact that you leave stupid comments like that pretty much assures me that you are one of the “idiots.” People who break the law ARE idiots. Discharging fireworks on any day other than July 4th is against the law. If law enforcement(retired one) would actually patrol and enforce the ban against illegal fireworks, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation. For years, fireworks were banned in Lancaster. Every year fireworks are discharged in Lancaster, calls are placed to the Sheriff’s Dept. and NOTHING is ever done! I saw a better display from my apartment complex in Lancaster last year than if I had gone to the Fairgrounds! And this lasted until almost Midnight in three of the locations. Mortar shells going off all night. Was the Dept. using Braille to find them or were they even looking? Hard to fathom why this lasted all night if Lancaster was against this and asked for the public’s help to boot. I love Fireworks a lot and although I would be disappointed, I would surely understand a ban, especially in this time of drought. I lost my home a few years ago but before that, I had to spend all my Holiday patrolling the property looking for falling debris from sky rockets and other such things that were supposedly illegal in Lancaster.
Ernie says
Look in a mirror when you say that. We are selling fireworks in June. We have one week to sell them. What you do with them is your business. Who said we were doing them in June. Doing and selling are two different things.
Tim Scott says
KD is no doubt whining about the sound of illegal fireworks going off, which was noticeable this past weekend.
kd says
The comment is not for you so move on.If it doesnt apply to you shut up.
Tim Scott says
You left off the “or else” that name calling whiners are supposed to end their orders with, so I choose to ignore your repetitive commands to shut up. Try again.
Happy Mom! says
@kd: You sound bitter, what a ignorant comment, do you know everyone that lives on the east side personally? East side, west side you still live in Palmdale!
Tim Scott says
Drought, desert, fireworks…this ought to be entertaining.
Desiree says
I have to agree!
Native says
Has there ever been a massive fire from the fourth?
I see illegal fireworks lighting up LEAPS when she fly over on patrol!
You people kill me! There’s a drought!
YOU LIVE IN THE DESERT!
It’s always dry!
Nothing will happen because nothing EVER HAPPENS!
The fireworks don’t cause bushfires, lightning strikes on power lines& catalytic converters cause more hell every year!
