PALMDALE – The Palmdale City Library’s free Summer Reading Program kicks off Monday, June 8, at the Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.
“This year’s theme is ‘Read to the Rhythm’ and we’ll be having a lot of fun over the summer to encourage kids to keep up their reading skills,” stated library director Thomas Vose. “We’ll kick things off with a party on Monday, June 8, at 1 p.m., with face painting, balloon storytelling and more!”
Sign up will begin at 10 a.m. at the Reference Desk in the Library, and the program starts at 1 p.m. The Summer Reading Program is free and open to all kids up to age 12.
In addition, the Palmdale City Library will hold a Teen Summer Reading Program and a new Adult Summer Reading program, in which teens and adults can earn tickets for a chance to win raffle prizes, such as a tablet computer, just by reading.
The reading programs will be held through Aug. 8 and are sponsored by the Friends of the Palmdale City Library.
Learn how to program and make video games!
The Palmdale City Library will hold a free two-day coding workshop to show elementary-age students how to write code and even develop their own video games.
The workshop will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 10, at the Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.
Because space is limited, this event is first come, first serve.
“There are a lot of young gamers out there, and this might be the start of a great career someday,” stated Library Director Thomas Vose.
This program is hosted by Skills USA and Palmdale High School’s FAST Academy.
