PALMDALE – Yucca Elementary teacher Angie Bohannon received a special surprise Tuesday morning when the Guys in Blue crashed a school assembly with $5,000 worth of supplies for her classroom.
The gift was part of the Helpful Honda team’s effort to recognize and reward five deserving teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, according to spokesperson Destin Judy.
“The SoCal Honda Dealers worked with school officials and community members across Southern California over the last month to nominate outstanding teachers from each district and school,” Judy stated.
The SoCal Honda Dealers received more than 100 entries from Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino counties, according to Judy. A nomination from Yucca Elementary Principal Pamela Egbert won Bohannon the award for going above and beyond for her at-risk kids facing socio-economic challenges.
“Ms. Bohannon spends much of her own money to ensure that her class receives the basics in order to achieve academic success. She has been known to spend her own money to provide students with clothing, food, furniture and daily necessities. Ms. Bohannon also spends a lot of her personal time dedicated to Yucca and its students as part of the Bully Free committee, a grade level lead and an ELA facilitator,” according to a statement announcing Bohannon’s win.
Bohannon’s surprise was unveiled Tuesday morning at a Yucca Elementary school assembly coordinated in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.
The Guys in Blue gifted the teacher with $5000 worth of much-needed iPads, a reading nook filled with books, and other basic supplies to help her students thrive.
