Palmdale begins recruitment for lifeguard summer jobs

PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale’s recreation and culture department has begun accepting applications for summer jobs for the position of Lifeguard I.

Details and applications are available at www.cityofpalmdale.org/jobs.

Qualified applicants must be 17 years of age by May 15, 2015. They will possess knowledge of rescue methods and first aid as applied to accidents in the water and surrounding area, as well as methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation of aquatic programs. Required licenses and/or certificates include CPR/AED for the professional rescuer and a lifeguard training certificate.

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be to have prior aquatic program experience and/or participation in formal or informal aquatics education courses.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, attending all mandatory trainings, practicing preventative lifeguarding techniques, assessing and responding to distress situations, cleaning and maintaining the entire aquatic facility, assisting with implementation of programs offered to the public, administering CPR and First Aid, and representing the city of Palmdale in a positive, appropriate manner.

Job recruitment will close March 12 or when 100 applications with minimum qualifications are received, whichever comes first.

In addition, qualified applicants will demonstrate professionalism during the recruitment process, which will include displaying good written and verbal communications skills; using correct capitalization, punctuation, grammar and spelling; the ability to complete the application correctly; providing appropriate email and phone contact information; and including three quality references with valid phone numbers.
