R.E.A.D. at AVC returns Feb. 21

by The AV Times Staff • January 26, 2015

READ AVCLANCASTER – Antelope Valley College’s spring session of “R.E.A.D! (Read, Educate, Activate, Discover) @ AVC” kicks off Saturday, Feb. 21, with the addition of a new class for older students.

Saturdays (Feb. 21 through May 6), librarians from AVC will encourage children to disconnect from TV and electronic games to discover the wonderful and magical world of books.

Kids ages 5-7 (grades K-2) are welcome, from 10 to 11 a.m., in the AVC library, room 214, as librarians and special guests will be reading to these youngest of learners. Children will then read together with their parent or guardian. The first session theme will be “Love to Read.” Each child who attends will receive a gift at the end of the event.

Kids ages 8-12 (grades 3-6) are welcome, from 1 to 2 p.m. Librarians will be hosting book talks and encouraging students to share their favorite books with others. Each child who attends will receive a gift at the end of each book talk.

View flyers for the two events here and here. While on AVC grounds, children must be accompanied at all times by an adult.

For more information, contact Librarian Gillian Ray at gray@avc.edu.
