11 arrested, none for DUI at Palmdale checkpoint

by The AV Times Staff • January 21, 2015

PALMDALE – No one was arrested for driving under the influence, but 11 unlicensed drivers were arrested at a DUI/ driver’s license checkpoint in Palmdale last week, authorities said.

Personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station conducted the checkpoint from 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 to 2 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, on Palmdale Boulevard at 17th Street East.

The results from the checkpoint are as follows:

* 991 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint.

* 991 drivers were checked at the checkpoint.

* 11 unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court.

* Eight vehicles were released per checkpoint release procedures.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting additional DUI/driver’s license checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols throughout the year as part of an ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon streets and highways.

Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Not even Texas allows their police to pull this scam.

They should set up a checkpoint outside the Sheriff’s station during the a.m. shift change and see what turns up. Criminal charges are only for the proles. Corrupted hypocrites.

The drunk people know where the check points are. That is why they are getting away with it. The people doing other things are getting caught…… just sayin

I am so glad the city is doing something about these reckless drivers. So many idiots running red lights, driving while texting, speeding for no reason, driving drunk…smh. It’d be nice if they could do check points everyday. Especially between 10th & 22nd/Palmdale blvd. Too many retards on that side of town driving like idiots… Driving on E…empty tank

My car was impounded during on of these stops. My car was on the impound lot for 20 days and several days after I got it back it i had problems with my car. It was in fine condition before. Has anyone else experienced this? The problem was with the fan belt.

I think the checkpoints a great! However, it seems as though there maybe some stereotyped of some kind..why isn’t there any checkpoints on the west side of town.. I personally live on the west side and see numerous drivers that seem under the influence of something

They perform checkpoints on the west side of Palmdale regularly… And near the mall, too!

      J.Gay,
These check points are all over the valley your point is invalid and basically stupid. Are you implying that only white people live on the “Westside”? Every possible race lives on this elusive “Westside” you speak of, just like the “Eastside” Checkpoints are necessary and are not intended to stop only 1 race. I will say this no one has ever complained that there hasn’t been a check point in Sun Village. Boom, that just happened, let that sink in for a minute. Re-think your statement and feel free to delete it J.Gay. Thank You have a nice day.

His point is maybe uneducated, but certainly not invalid OR stupid. He just didn’t realize that they had checkpoints in multiple different locations through out the valley. And sir, I do believe that it is YOU implying that there are only white people that live on the “west side” as I did not see the word “white” (or mention of any race period) anywhere in his statement. The word “stereotyped” could mean anything. maybe he thinks that they are stereotyping people as being unlicensed drivers or alcoholics on the east side. I don’t know why everyone is so automatically defensive around here – and people should feel free to post whatever they would like without fear that someone like YOU are going to jump all over them and read unwritten statements “in between the lines”. and YOU may feel free to delete you invalid and unfounded post.

What a great service to the community being done here. There is no problem with drinking yet the Sheriff’s department continues to use DUI checkpoints as an excuse to raise revenue for the city and the department.

11 unlicensed drivers. If illegals are eligible to get them now, why shouldn’t they act on this? Let one of the unlicensed drivers hit you and then you will care.

I’ve been hit by illegal alien unlicensed uninsured drivers yet I still value the constitution. If you don’t like the 4th amendment then lets have it changed by congress and ratified by the states. Yeah, I didn’t think so.

The judicial branch of our government (the one that ensures laws are adhering to the constitution, etc) determined that DUI checkpoints ARE reasonable searches. Therefore your comment just doesn’t apply. It doesn’t matter if YOU don’t like it, it’s just how it is.

You value your interpretation of the constitution on one issue perhaps, but if you don’t even respect the sovereignty of our nation’s borders it rings hollow. Good luck the next time you are hit.

Try this US Supreme court ruling on before spreading more nonsense about DUI stops being infringement of your 4th amendment rights.

It’s just ignorance. People jump to conclusions when a story reads unlicensed drivers that they are automatically illegal aliens. Illegal yes because unlicensed drivers are breaking the law by driving without a license. But there are people of all statuses that break laws. Not just illegal aliens drive unlicensed. Some U.S. citizens do too. People just don’t care to comprehend what they are reading anymore these days. It is easier to just jump to conclusions and assume.
