PALMDALE – Crime always increases during the holidays, and female shoppers are the biggest targets, according to local Taekwondo Master William Robinson.

Robinson says predators choose women because they consider them to be weak or distracted when shopping during the holidays.

To help local women stay safe this holiday season, Robinson has again teamed with Los Angeles Police Detective Mark Pursel to conduct a free women’s self-defense and holiday safety awareness seminar in Lancaster.

The event will take place from 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1825 West Avenue J, suite 207. It is free and open to the public, but attendees must pre-register by calling 661-948-5425.

At Saturday’s seminar, attendees will receive hands-on experience on how to react in life-threatening situations. Robinson will demonstrate and then attendees will practice several techniques, including “stun and run” – screaming while striking an attacker in a vulnerable area before fleeing the location for help.

Pursel will lead an interactive discussion on holiday safety, to include tips for safe shopping and driving, using automatic teller machines and attending and hosting parties.

Both men conduct the free women’s self-defense and holiday safety seminar every year as a public service. The event is being held in association with the nonprofit organization Team PRIDE. For more information, call 661-948-5425.

SITUATION AWARENESS; eyes open and ear listing, be aware of your environment. All the skills in the world means nothing if you do not see it coming. It is good that this instructor is offering free class but the too many people walk around without a clue of what is going on around them. Safety is staying alert to potential problems, devices like pepper spray or Tasers can help only if deployed in time just like self-defense techniques. Your mind set MUST be I will fight by whatever means necessary and NEVER give up.
