A. V. Freethinkers to offer scholarships

AVC Foundation Scholarship application deadlineLANCASTER – Antelope Valley Freethinkers (AVF) has announced a new scholarship for college-bound seniors.

“This scholarship is the first of its kind in the Antelope Valley,” stated David Dionne, president of AVF. “Our members have generously donated their time and resources to benefit the freethinking students in our community. We hope to encourage and inspire future leaders who champion reason, science, and secular ethics to meet the challenges of the 21st century.”

The scholarship offers a $1,000 first place prize, a $500 second place prize, and a $250 third place prize. It is open to local high school seniors, graduating in Spring 2015, who will be attending college in Fall 2015.

The requirements include an essay on “Being a Young Freethinker in the Antelope Valley.”

The Antelope Valley Freethinkers Meetup Group was founded in 2007 as an affiliate of Atheists United, an organization based in Los Angeles, CA. On May 15, 2009, the group became Antelope Valley Freethinkers, Inc., an independent, 501 (c)(4) non-profit corporation.
